Kit Carson County Pioneers:
Douken and Alida VerVoorn, 6 South 49 West
"Duke" Vervoorn was born December 21, 1863 at Taxel, Netherlands to Cors Vervoorn and Geesye Vanderhoek.
Siblings were Floris Otto, Grietje, Cornelis Jacob, Nn, and Reindert.
Aleda Fles, age 8, arrived in New York from Rotterdam on November 4, 1895 - Jacob was 32 wife 35, Alida 8, and Jacob 6.
Her brother Dr. Jacob Nicholas Cornelius Fles, married Hester Jane Coolbaugh.
He's buried in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 1890-1982 # 100709735, with Hester 1895-1988.
In 1897 Paterson, New Jersey, Duke VerVoorn is a driver, living at 41 Belle Avenue.
Geesje Vervoorn 1833-1904 is buried in Bergen County, New Jersey # 45274402.
Duke is a driver in 1909 Paterson, New Jersey, at 242 N. 4th.
Floris is a laborer at 24 Barnert, Henry, a painter, boards at 65 N. 1st, and Reindert is an ironer at 545 11th.
In 1910 Kit Carson County, Danke R. Vervoorn is 45, with Alida 42, both born in Holland Jacob is 3, born in New Jersey.
Douken claimed two quarters in 13, 6S 49W in 1913.
In 1930 Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Duke and Jacob are both laborers in a stone quarry, Duke immigrating in 1889, Alida in 1893.
All three are still in Bucks County in 1940.
Alida might have been buried under her maiden name with her parents Jacob and Cornelia Fles
1888-1961 # 46745626 in Bergen County.
Jacob 1906-1990 is buried in Almont, Bucks County # 68188647,
with Elizabeth 1911-1972 # 68188676.

"Jacob Vervoorn of Quakertown died Wednesday in Grand View Hospital,
West Rockhill Township. He was 83. Born in Patterson, N.J.,
he was a son of the late Docke and Alida Fles Vervoorn.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Hoff Vervoorn.
He was a janitor at the Quakertown Q-Mart for many years.
He was one of the founding members of West End Fire Co., Quakertown.
He is survived by a son, William, with whom he resided;
two stepsons, Francis Hoff of Milford Square and
James Texter Jr. of Perkasie; a step-daughter, Betty Dietrich of Perkasie;
one grand-child, eight step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the C. R. Strunk Funeral Home,
821 West Broad St., Quakertown."
August 31, 1959 Doylestown, Pennsylvania "A 21-year-old Perkasie man,
who was just married on Aug. 22, was killed Saturday morning at the
North Perm Hyde Co., Elroy, when he fell into a pit and was crushed to death
when a drum fell on him. Paul G. Jorgenson, of 1012 N. Seventh st. Perkasie;
was at work on the "graveyard" shift when the accident occurred.
He had been employed at the Montgomery county plant for five years.
Born in Hilltown township, he was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Hoff Vervoorn.
He was the husband of Lottie Klotz Jorgenson.
He was a member of the Lower Saucon Lutheran Churcb, where he had taken marriage
vows just a week before.
Survivors include his wife; his parents, of Quakertown RD:
his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hoff, Sellersville and these stepbrothers
and stepsister, Francis Hoff, Quakertown; James Tester. Perkasie;
William Vervoorn and Miss Betty Good, Quakertown.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Mbyer Funeral Home. 623 Market st., Perkasie, with burial to be made in New Jerusalem Cemetery. Leithsville."
When Doris (DeHaven) Hoff died in 2002, daughter "Carol (William) Vervroon of Hereford , Pennsylvania survived her.
