Frank Steininger, Ludwig Steininger, sister Grace Frisbee, 6 South 48 West


One descendant wrote "My Great grandmother was Grace Steininger Frisbee. We know of 7 children, all born in vilshofen, bavaria, germany. Frances, Anna, Grace, Karl, Cecelia, Mike and Ludwig. All came to the states except Mike and Karl. I remember my grandmother telling about as a child how her Uncle Lute (Ludwig) came to live with her family and that she helped him prepare for his citizenship test. I also have some pictures. I would like to find more information on the children's parents, Joseph and Anna Farrar Steininger."
Another wrote "Francis Steininger married Joseph Freimuth in 1900."

On the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grome, arriving in New York October 5, 1908, are Casililie Steininger, 27, a cook, last residence Fielshoen, going to Carroll County, Iowa. Ludwig, 22, occupation not known, also going to Carroll County.


LUDWIG

In 1910 Clay County, Iowa, Ludwig is a farm laborer, 23, born in Germany, living with sister Grace "Friske" 32 and her husband Harve 64. Francis Friske is 10.
Ludwig claimed a quarter in 9, 9S, 48W in 1920.
In 1920 Ludwig is farming in Kit Carson County, 33, born in Fielshoen, Germany, immigrating in 1909, naturalized in 1911. With him is sister Grace Frisbee, 42, widowed, also born in Fielshoen.

Lute claimed a quarter in 34, 6S, 48W in 1921.

Ludwig married Lottie M. Parshall in Vona on November 15, 1925.
In 1930 Kit Carson County. Ludwig is farming, 42, with Lottie 28 born in Kansas. Raymond L. is 2, Freida M. and Nedra M. both two months old.

In 1940 Kit Carson County, Ludwig is 52, Lottie 43, Raymond 12, Freida and Nedra both 10, and John 2.
Ludwig 1886-1946 is buried in Vona # 95414208, with Lottie M. (Parshall) Steininger 1897-1985 # 95414275.

One post said "Mr. Steininger died in 1946 in or near Vona, Kit Carson, CO. It is my understanding he was killed while checking railroad tracks. He left a wife, the former Lottie Mae Parshall, and four children. "

RAYMOND
Raymond Lee Steininger 1928-2014 is buried in Dodge City Kansas, # 126353857, with his first wife Helen A. (Andrewjeski) Steininger. Her parents are buried in Mount Olivet, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
"Raymond Lee Steininger, 85, died March 13, 2014 at Trinity Manor Skilled Facility in Dodge City. He was born on March 20, 1928 at Vona, Colorado, the son of Ludwig and Lottie (Parshall) Steininger. He married Helen Andrewjeski in 1946. She preceded him in death. He later married Glenda Bennett in 1961. He was owner/operator of Steininger Trucking for forty years. Raymond was an avid hunter and fisherman that loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Wilroads Garden Christian Church, Dodge City, and was also a life member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife Glenda Steininger, Dodge City, daughter, Lesa Meis and husband Frank, Greeley, Colorado; sons, Mike D. Steininger, Elbert, Colorado; Terry Steininger and wife Conni, Salina, Paul Steininger and wife Cindy, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Joe Lees, Lakin, sisters Nedra Webster, Anacortes, Washington; Freida Dewey, Hettinger, North Dakota, numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife Helen, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Konrade, four sons, Tom Gardner, David Steininger, Tim Steininger, and Lee Steininger,; two grandchildren, Stesha Steininger, and Chris Hodges; and one brother, John Steininger. "

FRIEDA

Frieda Steininger of Vona, born August 19, 1929 married Kenneth Dewey born June 25, 1929 of Flagler on October 15, 1949 in Vona.

(Jennie Dewey Hohenstein, born Sept 30, 1913 in Nebraska, married Erwin W. Hohenstein November 25, 1937 in Flagler, died December 18, 2006 in Mesa, Arizona) Erwin, born April 30, 1913, died June 18, 2003, last address Mesa, Arizona.

"Kenneth L. Dewey, 67, Hettinger, died March 19, 1997, in the Hettinger nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Saturday at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Frieda; two daughters, Marcella Anderson, Lodgepole, S.D., and Marvel Bentsen, Hettinger; two sons, Roger, Norfork, Neb., and Robert, Dickinson; three sisters, Jennie Hohenstein, Mesa, Ariz., Verda Martin, Callaway, Neb., and Ivah Britain, Longton, Kan.; and two brothers, Ivan, Carney, Neb., and Walter, Kimberly, Idaho."

Matt Korang, 67, Hettinger, died Nov. 1, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday, Nov. 7, at Hettinger Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Hettinger Cemetery.
Surviving family members include his wife, Marvel; two stepsons, Tyler Bentsen and Cody Bentsen, both of Hettinger; a step-grandson; and his step-mother, Freida Dewey, Hettinger; and a sister, Darlene Lutz, Dickinson. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)"

NEDRA

Nedra Steininger, born August 19, 1929, married Wilson Webster born April 16. 1916, on May 23, 1948 in Kit Carson County.
Wilson Burdette Webster 1916-1997 was born April 22, 1916 at Stratton, Colorado to Paul B. Webster and Edith M. WIlson is buried in Anacortes, Washington # 50271336.
Paul Webster, born about 1893, married Edith on Octboer 6, 1914 in Burlington.
Paul 1893-1990 is buried in Crescent City, California # 39910748, with Edith May (Wilson) Webster 1898-1983 # 39910704. (Edith's parents are buried in Anacortes, Wshington)

Wilson's sister Derma Webster Williamson 1918-1987 is buried in Crescent Vity # 39670619, with Carl Atwood Williamson 1913-1968.



GRACE

Grace was born June 24, 1877 in Germany to Jacob Steininger and Anna Farrer, and died December 11, 1955 in Kuna, Ada County, Idaho.

Grace, daughter of Joseph Steininger and Anna Fehre, married H.M. Frisbee in Sac City, Iowa on February 1, 1900.
In 1900 Grace, born June 1877 in Germany, is just married to Harvey M. Frisbee, 54, born in New York. She's had one child, Francis C. April 1900 in Iowa. Harvey's kids Harvey M. 24 born in Nebraska , Gabriel 15 in Illinois, and Edith 8 in Iowa, are with them, their mother born in Illinois.

Grace was with Ludwig in 1920 Kit Carson County.
(Grace's stepson Harvey Wilbur Frisbee was in Kit Carson County when registering for WWI, born January 8, 1876, farming near Vona. His reference was sister Bertha Hudner of Chatwick, Carroll County, Illinois? In 1930 Wilbur is divorced, in Newton County, Missouri with sister Francis C. Mumford 30 an her husband Floyd E. 33. Gabriel L. Frisbee 45 is also with them.)

In 1930 Grace is a cook in Carroll County, Iowa, 52, widowed, a lodger with the Otto and Teresa family, both 38.

Grace is buried in Kuna, Idaho 1877-1955 "Spouse: Harvey Millard Frisbee born March 17, 1846 in Delhi, Delaware County, New York. "


September 17, 1975 "Services for Floyd E. Mumford, 78, of Kuna, who died Monday, September 15, at his home, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Robison Chapel of the Chimes, Meridian, by Elder Hal Wallentine. Interment will be at Kuna Cemetery. He was born on Nov. 14, 1896, in Hardy, Neb., and grew up and attended schools in Colorado. He married Frances Frisbee on Feb. 27, 1918, in Vona, Colo. They moved lo Neosho, Mo., in 1927 and farmed. They moved to Boise in 1939 and he worked for Ihe Boise Ice Plant. In 1947 they came to Kuna, where they since had resided. He was sexton at Kuna Cemetery until retiring in 1965. Surviving are his wife, of Kuna; four sons, Emmett, of Meridian, Floyd Jr., of Missouri, Harry, of Kuna, and Paul Mumford, Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, John, Burlington. Colorado , and James Mumford, Boise; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother."

Francis is buried in Kuna, Idaho "Services for Frances C. Mumford, 76, of 315 E. 2nd, Kuna, Ida., who died Thurs., July 15, 1976, of an apparent heart attack while camping at Lake Cascade, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kuna, by First Counselor Joel Durrant. Interment will follow in the Kuna Cemetery.
Mrs. Mumford was born April 8, 1900, in Greenville, Iowa. In 1911, she moved to Vona, Colo., where she attended schools and married Floyd E. Mumford Feb. 27, 1918. They moved to Neosho, Missouri, in 1927, and to Boise, Idaho in 1939 where they resided until 1947, when they made their home in Kuna. She was a member of the LDS Church in Kuna and of the American Lilly Society.
Surviving are four sons, Emmett, of Meridian, Ida., Harry, of Falton, Mont., Floyd Jr., of Nevada, Mo., and Paul, of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband in September 1975."

Emmett Eugene Mumford was born January 26, 1919 at Vona, dying December 21, 2005.
October 2003 "Promising rookie sports car racer Paul Mumford was one of two men killed when the small plane he was piloting crashed and burned this week, a close friend said Thursday. Mumford, 31, of Yorba Linda, was with Chris Premer, 31, of Costa Mesa, said fellow racer Brian Provost. Provost said the two men were good friends. Mumford, a former motorcycle racer, won his first Sports Car Club of America Pro Racing event at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sept. 7."
FRANK

Frank claimed a quarter in 34, 6S, 48W in 1921.


Carroll, Iowa - August 1948
Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning from St. Mary's Catholic church at Marion, S. D., for Mrs. Joseph Friemuth, sr., cousin of Mrs. John Loneman and Mrs. Joe Steininger of Carroll. Mrs. Friemuth died at her home near Marion, August 11. She had been in failing health for some months. The Rev. Fr. Zimmerman officiated at the mass and graveside rites. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Marion. Mrs. Friemuth was born Frances Steiningcr, daughter of Anna and Joseph Steininger, in Bavaria, Germany, on May 3?, 1874. At the age of 17 years, she and a sister came to this country settling in Carroll, where she lived until 1??5, at which time she moved to a farm home near Marion. In 1900 she married Joseph Friemuth at Carroll. The Friemuths had eight children, all of whom survive their parents, with the exception of one son, John, who died at the age of one year in 1916. Mr. Friemuth died April 21, 1930. Survivors include Mrs. Peter Crawford * Carroll,. Iowa J Hauger (Mary), Irene; Frances Friemuth and Christine Friemuth, at home; Sr. Joseph (Ann) St. Joseph's hospital, Mitchell, S. D.; Sr. Helen (Helen), Aberdeen, S. D.; Joseph, at home; Dr. Frank Friemuth, Crawford, Neb.; also two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law.
She leaves three sisters, Cecelia Steininger, Omaha, Mrs. Grace Frisbee, Kuna, Idaho, and Anna Steininger, Clarinda, and one brother, Michael, still in Germany."

Bertha Marie Lampe, age 98, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Bertha was born on June 7, 1912, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of William Carl and Agnes (Frisbee) Steininger. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur and attended St. Augustine Catholic School. She met and fell in love with Clarence Lampe and they were married on April 21, 1931 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Clifford, LeRoy, LaVon, Morris and Janice. They farmed in the Arcadia area before moving to Wisconsin in 1958 to farm. In 1973 they returned to Iowa and enjoyed their retirement.
Bertha was a loving and devoted wife and mother who cared for her family, and enjoyed the farm life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Clifford Lampe of Lakeport, CA, and LeRoy (Mary) Lampe of Omaha, NE; daughters: LaVon Wilkens of Sac City and Janice (Terry) Richards of Nixa, MO; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; brother Lloyd Steininger of Rockport, IL; sister Viola Spieker of Manning, IA; and many extended relatives.


FRANCES

Frances Steininger married Joseph Freimuth in 1901 in Carroll County, Iowa. In 1910 Joseph is 40, Francis 34. She said she immigrated in 1894. They have Mary 7, Francis K. 5, Grace C. 4, Anna M. 2, and Helen four months.

They're in Marion, South Dakota in 1920, with Mary 17, Francis 15, Christina 13, Annie 11, Helen 10, Jseph 8, and Frank 6.

CECILIA

Cecilia arrived in New York on the Bremen in 1930, age 47, a servant, born in Germany, traveling to Carroll, Iowa.

Ceceilia is living in Carroll, Iowa in 1930, a cook at a hotel, living wtih the Harry and Leta Nestle family.
In 1945 Cecilia is working at a restaurant in Omaha, Nebraska, living at 4124 Hamilton.

One tree said Cecilia was buried December 14, 1951

ANNA

In 1930 Anna, born about 1871 in Germany, is an inmate at the Clarinda, Iowa state hospital.
One tree said she died May 4, 1951 at Clarinda. It said her father 1838-1903 died in Bayern, Germany, and Anna 1844-1906 died in Bayern. "Death card states that Anna Steininger, a long settled small holder in Waizenbach, died after a lengthy illness on 22 Jan 1906 in her 63rd year. JOSEPH

Joseph Steininger was in Carroll County, Iowa in 1900, born March 1871, married two years to Frances August 1878, both born in Germany.
Josie was born September 1899 in Iowa.

Joseph and Frances are farming in Sanborn County, South Dakota in 1910, with Joseph Jr. 11, George 8, Francis 5, Frank 2, and Mary 1, all kids born in Iowa.
They're next to Will Steininger 20 born in Iowa and his brother Frank 31 born in Germany, immigrating in 1889, naturalized.
Will and Frank were in Carroll County, Iowa in 1900, with parents Jacob 58 and Theresa 53, both born in Germany.
Theresa is 16, Clara 14, and Agnes 12. Also with them is Joseph Frisch 44 born in Germany.

Jacob died in 1902, Theresa 1913, both buried in Carroll County.

Frank married Bertha Eder in Kansas City on October 18, 1924, and they're in Newton County, Missouri in 1940. Frank is 61, Bertha 49 born in Kansas.
Bertha was in Kansas City in 1920, 20, with parents John Eder 43 and Francis 40.
Bertha, born July 11, 1899, died December 1975, last residence Kansas City.
Frank 1883-1949 is buried in Kansas City # 176083644, with Bertha # 176083733.

"April 9, 1936 - Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heithoff, Mrs. John Loneman, Joe Steininger and Mrs. Melvin Pietig left this morning for St. Paul, Minn., called there by the death of Mrs. Loneman's and Joe Steiningers brother, William Steininger. Four of Mr. Steininger's children who reside in this locality include Mrs. Lawrence Spieker, (Viola), Mrs. Clarence Lampe (Bertha), Lloyd Steininger and Wilbur Steininger. They will be unable to attend the funeral. "

December 1945 Carroll, Iowa "Funeral services were conducted at St. Peter and Paul church at 9:30 Saturday morning for Joseph Steininger, who died at his home here at 10:10 last Wednesday evening. The Rev. Father Otmar Koester, assistant pastor, offered the requiem mass. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Six neighbors who served as pallbearers were: Ben Comes, Albert Sapp, Ole Oleson, Edmund Schroeder, Albert Hagen and Louis Hiebeler. All of Mr. and Mrs. Steininger's children were present at the services. Relatives and friends attending from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. William Rettenmaier and son, Al, Ft. Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. George Steininger and daughter, Mr.s^llim Smith, and Frank Steininger, Boone; Frank Steininger, brother of the deceased, Neosho,Cecilia Steininger, Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Steininger, Glidden; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Spieker, Templeton; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lampe, Arcadia; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoffman, K. Thalhammer and son, Korbi, and Mr. and Mrs. Welti. Dedham.

1947

"Mrs. Joseph Steininger was honored at a party at her home yesterday afternoon on her 71st birthday. A potluck dinner and lunch were served, and the participants presented Mrs. Steininger with birthday gifts. In the group were Mrs. Steininger's daughter, Frances, and her son, Albert; Mr. and Mrs. Hans Pedersen and Darlene of Des Moines; Cecilia Steininger, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. George Steininger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith and Mrs. H. W. Harding, Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rettenmaier and Frances, Kay and Al and Lloyd Larkin, Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reinart and Janice, Dow Gity; Marty Leist, Exira; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoffman, Ruth, Eunice and Danny, Mrs. Thalhammer and Korbi and, Paul Thalhammer and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mikkelson and Donnie, Dedham, and Mr. and Mrs. August Jung and Angela and Mr. and Mrs. George Danzer, Carroll.

George Joseph Steininger, son of Joseph Steininger and Francis Mutz, was born November 8, 1902 at Dadham, Carroll County, Iowa, and applied for Social Security in 1940, to be a locomotive fireman at Boone, Iowa for the Chicago and NorthWestern Raiilway.
