Carroll, Iowa - August 1948 Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning from St. Mary's Catholic church at Marion, S. D., for Mrs. Joseph Friemuth, sr., cousin of Mrs. John Loneman and Mrs. Joe Steininger of Carroll. Mrs. Friemuth died at her home near Marion, August 11. She had been in failing health for some months. The Rev. Fr. Zimmerman officiated at the mass and graveside rites. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Marion. Mrs. Friemuth was born Frances Steiningcr, daughter of Anna and Joseph Steininger, in Bavaria, Germany, on May 3?, 1874. At the age of 17 years, she and a sister came to this country settling in Carroll, where she lived until 1??5, at which time she moved to a farm home near Marion. In 1900 she married Joseph Friemuth at Carroll. The Friemuths had eight children, all of whom survive their parents, with the exception of one son, John, who died at the age of one year in 1916. Mr. Friemuth died April 21, 1930. Survivors include Mrs. Peter Crawford * Carroll,. Iowa J Hauger (Mary), Irene; Frances Friemuth and Christine Friemuth, at home; Sr. Joseph (Ann) St. Joseph's hospital, Mitchell, S. D.; Sr. Helen (Helen), Aberdeen, S. D.; Joseph, at home; Dr. Frank Friemuth, Crawford, Neb.; also two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law. She leaves three sisters, Cecelia Steininger, Omaha, Mrs. Grace Frisbee, Kuna, Idaho, and Anna Steininger, Clarinda, and one brother, Michael, still in Germany." |
Bertha Marie Lampe, age 98, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Bertha was born on June 7, 1912, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of William Carl and Agnes (Frisbee) Steininger. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur and attended St. Augustine Catholic School. She met and fell in love with Clarence Lampe and they were married on April 21, 1931 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Clifford, LeRoy, LaVon, Morris and Janice. They farmed in the Arcadia area before moving to Wisconsin in 1958 to farm. In 1973 they returned to Iowa and enjoyed their retirement. Bertha was a loving and devoted wife and mother who cared for her family, and enjoyed the farm life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Clifford Lampe of Lakeport, CA, and LeRoy (Mary) Lampe of Omaha, NE; daughters: LaVon Wilkens of Sac City and Janice (Terry) Richards of Nixa, MO; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; brother Lloyd Steininger of Rockport, IL; sister Viola Spieker of Manning, IA; and many extended relatives. |
