He registered for WWI with a Vona address, farming, single, working for Ludwig Runiger of Vona, born December 15, 1886 at Chetopa, Kansas.

Sadie Beatrice Rogers was born January 28, 1895 in Labett County to Willis J. Rogers and Altona Truax, dying Sept 5, 1988.

"Carl is the son of Andrew P and Mary (Noble) Free. He was a graduate of Chetopa high school and attended business college in Pittsburg. He lived with his family for a short while in Perryton, Texas; then homesteaded in Colorado. He returned to Chetopa before entering the Army in World War I.
He served as an infantryman in France and Germany. After his military service, he returned to the Chetopa area and engaged in farming.
He married Sadie R. Rodgers on December 24, 1919.
He was a member of the Oswego United Methodist Church and of Bryant-Sykes VFW Post no. 3399 and a former member of the Modern Woodman Lodge.
He was survived by two sons, Don and C.L.; a half-sister, Harriet and 3 grandchildren. "
