1904 Anthony, Kansas - Mr. Claude L. Cozad of Attica has enrolled in the Commercial Department of the Anthony Business College.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Claude is 26, born in Kansas, living alone.


Verna's parents:
Last Tuesday, March 14, 1922 was the 50th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. McKinney of this city, and in honor of the event a happy gathering of relatives was planned for that day at Mr. and Mrs. McKinney's home in Comanche County, Kansas. The plans were well carried out, only one occurrence hindering the complete enjoyment of the day, and that was the extremely unfavorable condition of the roads, which made it impossible for a number of the relatives to be present. But those who live in town, Floyd McKinney and family, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Mark and Dale Mark, were there and helped to make the occasion one long to be remembered. A fine dinner was enjoyed and a happy time was spent together. The children who could not be present are: W. A. and Will McKinney of this county, Mrs. Verna Cozad of Attica and Mrs. Fanny Padgett of Geary, Okla. One daughter, Mrs. Fletcher, died in Colorado only a few months ago. Mr. and Mrs. McKinney have 20 grandchildren. They are the parents of seven children, and six of that number are living. It is not often that so large a percentage of the children live to help celebrate the Golden Wedding Anniversary of their parents. If Mr. McKinney lives until the 2d day of next July, he will be 75 years of age. Mrs. McKinney will be 71 in August.

It was on March 14, 1872 at Paxton, Sullivan County, Indiana, that F. A. McKinney and Miss India Shake were united in marriage. Twelve years later, or in the year 1884, the family moved to Kansas, settling on a farm about six miles southwest of Attica in Harper co., paying $1000 for the quarter of land. There they continued to make their home until they came to this county about fifteen years ago. Mr. and Mrs. McKinney are well acquainted with the hardships and the sacrifices of pioneer days. They stayed with the country and labored on and they have been successful in building up a good home and have done their full share in developing the country. They are ranked among our best citizens, and all unite at this time in extending to them sincere congratulations upon their having reached the 50th mile stone along the pathway of their married life, and to them there is extended the sincere hope that many more happy wedding anniversaries may be theirs to enjoy.

Mrs. J. E. Padgett, mother of Mrs. Wayne Beitler and a sister of Will McKinney, Mrs. O. J. Mark and Mrs. C. L. Cozad of Coldwater, passed away at her home in El Reno, Oklahoma, on July 24, 1944. Funeral services were held in El Reno on Thursday of last week.
Those from this county who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Beitler, Bill McKinney, Mrs. Cozad, Mrs. Sadie McKinney, Russell McKinney and Mrs. Mary McKinney.
Burial services were held in Attica, Kansas, on Friday and were attended, also, by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ellis, Robert and Dorothy McKinney, Mrs. Bill McKinney and daughter, Miss Vera and C. L. Cozad.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Padgett was _2 years of age. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. McKinney, now deceased. Her husband passed away three months before her death.
Claude claimed a quarter in 18, 6S, 48W in 1912.

Billy Mack Cozad was born August 22, 1918 at Attica, Kansas to Claude L. Cozad and Verna V. McKinney, dying June 12, 1995.
He's buried in Roosevelt, Utah.

In 1920 Harper County, Kansas, Claude is 34, Verna 35 born in Indiana, with Corinne 6 and Billy 1, both born in Kansas.

In 1930 Harper County, Claude is a gas and oil agent, with Verna V. both 45. Avarine G. is 15, and Billy 10.

August 1941 Coldwater, Kansas "Bob Harp and Claude L. Cozad attended the Hardtner fair on Wednesday. They report that there were some good race horses but a soft track."

In 1940 Coldwater, Kansas, Spurgeon Wantland has an auto parts store, 31, Averine 26, with Cheryl Rae 3.

In 1947 Avarine Wantland is a clerk in the Fresno public schools, living at 618 Wilson Avenue.

1949 Fresno "Herchel Wantland, 64, a retired carpenter of 1587 Safford Avenue, died Saturday in a local hospital following a lingering illness. A native of Franklin County, Ky., Wantland came about to Fresno 10 years ago. His survivors include five sons, Sturgeon Wantland, Stoney Wantland of Fresno, Donovan Wantland of Oregon, Gilbert Wantland of Littlerock, Calif., and Burnie Wantland of Sacramento; two daughters, Mrs. Delphia McNabb and Mrs. Ozello Vogler Fresno of Virginia. The funeral services are set for 10:30 AM Thursday in the Stephens Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Floyd Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Beiniont Memorial Park."


In 1958 Fresno, Spurgeon M. (Avarine G.) is credit manager for Fresno Auto Parts, living at 1587 N. Safford Avenue.

Avarine C. Wantland, age 62, married Trevor Carnes, 74 on August 10, 1975 in Orange County, California.

William Cozad was in the Army Air Corps in 1940.

Billy McK Cozad, Sgt U.S. Army WWII is buried in Roosevelt, Utah, August 22, 1918- June 12, 1995.

Billy, # 93370237, is buried with Margaret L. - 1922-2007 # 94362850.

Bert Andrew Dearing, 75, of Alvin, Texas, passed away Monday, May 17, 2004, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Webster, Texas.
Bert was born May 14, 1929, in Sugar Land, Texas, and was a resident of Alvin for 25 years. He was a supervisor in the oil industry and a member of the Catholic faith. Bert served in the United States Army during WWII.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lilla Mae Dearing; and brother, Ralph Charles Dearing.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Dearing of Alvin; daughter, Laura Lynn Santangleo of Angleton; son and daughter-in-law, Bryon Lee and Mary Short of Angleton; sisters, Margarget Cozad of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Doris Mae Senior of Missouri City; three grandchildren, Bobby Abshire, Kelly Short and David Short; one great-grandchild, Kuana Abshire; and numerous other relatives and friends.
