George then married Lillian Veatch in 1893 and they had three children, one of them being Paul Arthur Cottrell. George was a brick mason and by the 1920’s he had built quite a reputation for his exacting masonry work. He and his company built some beautiful brick buildings and churches in and around Denver, Colorado. His sons Mortimer and Paul both trained as apprentices under his tutelage and they, in turn, were artful and exacting brick masons. George died in 1929 and due to the financial collapse and resulting depression Paul was unable to raise the capital needed to buy his father’s business. The business ended up being acquired by a construction firm in Denver. Paul continued working as a brick and stone mason. I’ve been told that he built the beautiful fireplaces that currently grace the lobby of the grand old Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
