Ernest Oka Griggs, 6 South 47 West



In 1900 Nodaway County, Missouri, Oaky Griggs born February 1893 is with M. L. 33 and Anna Griggs 29. Rexie is 3, and Arthur is 1.
Oakey is a farm hand in 1910 Andrew County, Missouri, 17, working for Luther and Gertrude Lamaster.
Ernest claimed two quarters in 29, 6 South, 47W in 1916.


Ernest registered for WWI with a Stratton address, a carpenter working for T. H. Birchard of Fort Morgan, single, born February 24, 1892 near Whitesville, Andrew County, Missouri.

He's back in Andrew County in 1920, 26, with Anna Lee 22 born in Tennessee. They have Dolly G. newborn born in Missouri.

Anna is probably Anna Hutson, who's in Nodaway County in 1910, age 10, with mother Mary Hays 30 and her husband Marshel Hayes 24.

Mary (Cox) Hayes 1862-1941 is buried in Nodaway County # 111796935.

Mary Cox had married James C. Hutson in Campbell County, Tennessee inJuly 19, 1888.

Rev. J.C Hudson 1821-1898 was originally buried in Campbell County, relocated to the Baptist Church in 1934 as part of the Norris Dam project # 22096797.

In 1930 Andrew County, Ernest is 37, Anna 32, Dollie G. 10, Olga D. 9, and Virgil W. 7.

In 1940 Ernest O. is 47, Anna Lee 42, Virgil 17, Daryl Dean 5, and Veronica Kay eleven months.

One group sheet said Earnest married Mattie May Bentley in 1944, and another person in 1954. He married Anna Lee Hutson on August 12, 1918.
Rosetta Page Joslin 1902-1986 was his wife, per this group sheet.

(Rosetta Joslin was 18 ? in 1930 Andrew County, married to Albert 45. Buster is 3, Edward newborn, and daughter Sealy Joslin is 6.
She was also 18 in the 1920 census, married to Albert. She possibly is the Rosetta Page in 19010 Buchanan County Missouri, 7, with parents Ed 34 and laura 33.
Rosetta Griggs, born April 3, 1902, died September 1986 in Missouri.

Anna H. Griggs 1897-1968 is buried in Whitesville, Missouri # 91280902.

FindaGrave # 91175553 has "Ora E. Griggs" 1893-1979 - and the stone says that - but this is almost certainly Oka.

Dollie Geneva McClain 1919-2009 # 97097107 is buried in Orlando, Florida, with Ross 1917-1989.

Olga Doris Griggs was born Feb 24, 1921 at Wyeth, Andrew County to Ernest O. Griggs and Anna L. Hutson , as Couch in 1962, Rasco in 2005.
She's buried in Whitesville 1921-2005 # 91266507.

1938 Des Moines, Iowa "Mrs. Charles Rasco, of Rea. Mo., phoned police here Thursday afternoon to report her son, James, 16, had run away and was headed for Des Moines. At S p. m. James was taken into custody as he alighted from a Great Western freight train at S. W. Twenty-first st. With James was Virgil W. Griggs, 18, of Whlteville, Mo., also a runaway. The youths said they wanted to see the Iowa state fair"

Virgil Wilson Griggs was born June 2, 1923 at Wyeth, Missouri, served in the Navy for WWII and Korea on the USS New York, died June 24, 2005 and is buried in WHitesville, # 91281272.

Doryl "Dean" Griggs, 73, St. Joseph, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at a Savannah, Mo., health care center.
Dean was born in Whitesville, Mo., on March 10, 1935, to Earnest and Anna Lee (Hutson) Griggs. He was raised in the Whitesville/St. Joseph area.
He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1964. Following his military service, he began his career as an over-the-road truck driver and became owner of Griggs Trucking Co.
He was a member of Eagles Lodge and American Legion Post No. 359.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vergil Griggs, and sister, Doris Couch.
Survivors include one son Verlin James Griggs and wife Evelyn, Green Forest, Ark.; granddaughter Cassandra Reene Hahn, US Air Force Base, in Little Rock, Ark.; sisters, Dolly McClain, Orlando, Fla., and Veronika K. Griggs, Joplin, Mo., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, Mo., under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday."
