In 1900 Lawrence Kansas, Alfonson, born January 1873 in Kansas, is a commercial traveler. He's living with parents Zadok 59 and Elyria H. 51, both born in Indiana.

Zadok M. Carey 1840-1932 is buried in Lawrence # 9049814. So is Guliema CArey 1849-1934 # 9049815.

Maude Glass, born March 1878 in Missouri, is in Lawrence in 1900, with parents Robert 48 an Isabell 42. George is 19, and there are two young boarders.

Robert F. Glass 1852-1915 is buried in Lawrence # 26728332. So is Sarah Isabell (Lester) Glass 1857-1938 # 26728353.



June 12, 1902 Lawrence "Miss Maude Glass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Glass, was united in marriage to Mr. Alfonso Carey yesterday after noon, at the home of the bride's parents, at 243 Elm street. The wedding was a very quiet home affair, and the ceremony was pronounced by Rev. O. M. Thomas. After the wedding, a lunch was served and the young people left for Kansas City and Excelsior Springs on a short wedding trip. The bride is a well known and very popular Lawrence girl, and the numerous presents she received were tokens of the warm friends she has made. Mr. Carey is now traveling salesman for the Oklahoma Vinegar Sc. Phosphate company, and has many friends in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Carey will return to Lawrence after their wedding trip."

1913 Lawrence "George L. Glass, who grew up in the carpet department at the Innes store, has been making good in great shape as head of the carpet department for Maas Bros. of Tampa, Fla. When Mr. Glass took the job two years ago the salary was $125.00 a month. Since that time there have been two increases bringing his present salary up to $175.00 a month or $2,100 a year. Mr. Glass is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Glass of Lawrence, and married Miss Dorwood, a well known and popular young lady of Lawrence, just before going to Florida."

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Alfonso L. Carey is running a grocery store, 37, born in Kansas and Maud 32 born in Missouri, have George L. 4 and Robert M. 3 both born in Kansas.

January 4, 1911 "A new Colorado town has been named for a former Lawrence man. A. L. Carey, who formerly operated ia grocery store in North Lawrence, has just been named as postmaster of Carey, Colo. The Lawrence man went to Colorado two years ago and settled in Kit Carson county, 15 miles from Stratton. He platted a small town-site, named it Carey, and when the population justified, applied for a post office. It was granted this week."

In October 1912 Colorado received $ 325,000 to be used on highways and rural routes. The roads of Yuma County which were to receive improvements - Stratton to Fox, Tuttle to Carye...

In 1920 Lawrence, Alfonso is 46, Maud 41, George 14, Robert 12, and Elma 5.
They're next to the Henry and Lula Broat family, and Zadok adn Elma Carey oare on the same page.

Alfonso Lewis Carey registered for WWI in Lawrence, born January 17, 1873, a grocerman at A.L. Carey's Cash Grocery at 415 N. Secton in Lawrence.
May 26, 1922 "Elma Carey pierced her foot with a rock and nothing was thought of it but later pain and swelling suggested blood poison, the foot was dressed by the family physician and the little lady is all right now. j Herbert Elworth from Baker University is a guest of the A. L. Carey family during graduation of our high school, he and George are warm friends and he is here to attend the graduating exercises. Herbert's father is Superintendent of the Valley Falls schools."

November 1, 1922 "The little Misses Elma Carey and Wilma Broat very delightfully entertained their little friends Monday evening of this week with a Hallowe'en party. They were assisted by their brothers, Robert Carey and Robert Broat. The boys tastefully and suggestively decorated the Carey garage for the occasion with autumn leaves, jack-o-lanterns, black cats, and witches. The favors were doughnut witches riding brooms made by Mrs. Carey. Mrs. Broat made hob-goblin cookies. Hallowe'en games were indulged in and the guests departed very happy over the evening's entertainment. They were Jennie Peltzie, Phyllis Tripp, Lena Taylor, Mabel Jones, Dorothea Weingartner, Helen Wiley, Dorothy Sanders, Cleo Jackson, Catherine Dicker, Alice j Louise Lowe, Elma Carey, Wilma Broat, Robert Carey and Robert Broat."

In 1925 Lawrence, A. L. is 52, M.A. 46, George L. 19, and Robert 14.

In 1930 Lawrence, Alfonso is a salesman, 57, Maude 52, Robert 23 no occupation, and Elma is 16.

In 1940 Alfonso and Maude are alone in Lawrence, no occupations.

Maude Agnes Carey 1878-1947 is buried in Lawrence # 9049817.

January 20, 1947 Clinton, Indiana "Mrs. A. L. Carey, 66 years old, mother of George L. Carey, of Clinton, publisher of The Daily Cllntonian and The Hoosler Slate, died suddenly at her home in Lawrence, Kansas. Sunday at 2 p. m. She had suffered from increasingly severe anemia for several years, but the immediate cause of death was infection following the extraction of a tooth. Mra Carey was born and spent most of her life in the state of Kansas. She is survived by the widower, two sons, George L. and Robert M. Carey, the latter superintendent of a large oil well drilling machinery plant in Wichita, Kans., and one daughter, Mrs. Elma Hogg, of Holton, Kansas. Funeral services will he held from her home in Lawrence, Kans. at 2 p. m., Wednesday with burial In that city."

Alfonso 1874-1960 is buried in Lawrence # 9049820.

November 17, 1960 Terre Haute, Indiana "Services for A. L. Carey, 87 years old, father of George L. Carey, editor and publisher of the Daily Clintonian, who died at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday night at a hospital in Overland Park, Kan., will be Saturday in Kansas. The services will be at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Rumley Funeral Home in Lawrence, Kan. Burial will be in Lawrence. He formerly owned and operated a grocery store in Kansas for many years before his retirement about 20 years ago. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Elma Hogg of Overland Park, with whom he made his home, and three grandchildren."



Robert M. Carey 1907-1960 is buried in Wichita, Kanss # 7624804, with Dorris (Fair) Carey 1907-1983.

In 1930 Mercer County, Illinois, George L. Carey is a journalist, 24, Elizabeth 24, both born in Kansas.

George L. Carey, born in Lawrence, and Elizabeth Bolinger born in Great Bend, had a son George B. Carey who married Jenanne Frazier in Clinton, Indiana in January 1991. He was 52w.

Elizabeth Lelia Carey, born May 25, 1905, died April 30, 1985 in Clinton, to be buried in Roselawn, Terre Haute, Indiana. Her parents were Willice an Avice Bolinger.

In 1940 Elma "Carry" is a teacher in Jackson County, Kansas, rooming with Anna Hocker 50. Elma was in Lawrence in 1935.
Clarence Manuel Hogg was in Holton, Jackson County, and was teaching in 1940.
He's buried in Lawrence 1904-1969 # 9049825. So is Elma (Carey) Hogg 1914-1984 # 9052077.

August 2, 1969 " Clarence M. Hogg, 64, of R320 West Seventy-fifth, Overland Park, died yesterday at Shawnee."
