Kit Carson County Pioneers:

William and Lucy A. (Bregg) Bellmore, 6 South 47 West


Lucy Bregg's parents were Isaac Bregg of New York and Christina Laurick of New York.

The Deaf Family Marriage register has Isaac Bragg marrying Eleanor M. Limebeck. He was born about 1822 in New York.
Isaac was deaf from birth, living at Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.
He was in the New York School for the deaf in 1832.

In 1860 Livingston County, Illinois, Isaac Bragg is 37, born in New York, with Lena M. 38, New York, both deaf and dumb. Harrison 11 and Lena S. 10 were born in Illinois, Isabella E. 7 in Wisconsin.
Isaac's cousin (per the American Annals of the Deaf) Olive (Breg) Marshall died in 1863, per # 102278168, and was in Livingston County in 1860.
"I would like to ask you to see if you can find out if Olive Breg Marshall is buried in North Emery Green Cemetery. I know Olive, my great great grandmother died in La Salle county and I wonder if she is buried near her nephew. She died in 1863. There probably isn't a headstone for her but perhaps there is a record of her burial??

Isabel Breg is a domestic servant in a hotel in Livingston County in 1870, 16, born in Wisconsin.

William's family:
In 1860 Jasper County, Iowa, S. Belmore is farming, 35 born in New York, Jane 29 Kentucky, Anezella 12, Julia 11, an Marie J. 8, born in Indiana, Geo N. 5 and Wm. N. 2 born in Iowa.

In 1870 Jasper County, Stephen Bellmoreis 45, Sarah J. 41, George W. 15, William 14, Sarah A. 12, and Nancy E. 8.

Sarah Jane Bellmore 1829-1915 is buried in Guthrie County Iowa # 11195301.
Stephen Bellmore 1826-1882 is buried in Eagleville, Harrison County, Missouri., # 14890940.


In 1900 Jackson County, Missouri, William W. Bellmore is a painter, born September 1866 in Iowa, married 23 years to Lucy E. July 1861 Illinois, have Emma L. March 1886 Missouri, Charles H. August 1888, Missouri, and Capitolia December 1892 Iowa.
WILLIAM

William Bellmore married Mrs. Liddie J. Newton in Independence, Missouri on June 13, 1905.

In 1910 Yuma County, William is 52, farming, now married to lydia J. 52.

They're on the same page as Lucy, who's divorced.

William proved up 165 acres in sections 7 and 18, 5S 46W in 1914 - across the line in Yuma County.
1916 Wray, Colorado " William Bellmore returned Friday evening from Fort Morgan, where he had gone a month previous to see if the higher altitude would benefit his health, as he is suffering from asthma."

Lyddia J. Bellmore and William Bellmore divorced in Yuma County in 1919.

In 1930 Englewood, Colorado, William Bellmore is 72, born in Iowa, with Ida 75 Illinois. He was first married at age 20, she at 67 - so they were married about 1922.


William received an old age pension from Arapahoe County, Colorado on July 17, 1934.

William 1857-1934 is buried in Denver # 31798162, with Ida 1855-1934.



LUCY
Irvin D. Black, Brookville, married Lucy A. Bellmore, of Independence, Mo., on 28 April 1905 at Salina. I have a copy of the marriage license (#3467, Marriage Record F, page 433) from Saline County. The 1910 federal census has Lucy A. Bellmore listed in Kirk, Yuma County, Colorado, as divorced and living with her son, Charles H. Bellmore.
Lucy proved up 341 acres in section 6, 6 South, 47W and section 1, 6S 48W in 1917.


In 1920 Denver, Lucy Lacy is widowed, 57, born in Illinois, working in a nursing home, with daughter Gertrude Row, divorced, who works in a laundry 34 born in Missouri.


In 1925 Sioux County Iowa, Lucy A. Lacy is 64, widowed, living with daughter Marie C. Jurgenson 30 and her husband John Jurgenson 34.

In 1930 Sioux County, Lucy is 69, still living with John and Marie, with their son John L. 4.

Mrs. Lucy Lacy passed away at 4:10 Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.F. Jurgensen in this city. Mrs. Lacy suffered a stroke nine years ago and two years ago she suffered a second stroke. She was seriously ill for some time after suffering the strokes bur was only bedfast a week preceding her death.
Funeral services will be held from the J.F. Jurgensen home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon and from the Baptist Temple at 2:30. Burial will be made in Grace Hill cemetery.
Lucy Bragg was born at Streator, Ill., July 6, 1860, so had attained the advanced age of 73 years, 6 months and 25 days. She was left an orphan at the age of three years. She was united in marriage to Henry Lacy in Missouri. She came to Hawarden in 1920 and since then has made her home here with Mrs. Jurgensen. When she was well and able she attended the Baptist church in this city and was a member of the Bible class of that Sunday school. The members of this class frequently held meetings at the Jurgensen home during the past couple of years so that Mrs. Lacy might enjoy the gatherings with them and this was a great comfort to her in her trying days. She is survived by her three children, Mrs. J.F. Jurgensen of Hawarden, Mrs. Walter Callahan of Sioux City and Charles Bellmore of Brush, Colo. She also leaves five grandchildren.

Findagrave # 145067147 has Marie C. (Bellmore) Jurgenson 1894-1986 buried in Sioux County.
CHARLES

August 28, 1908 "C. H. Bellmore, a son of Wm. A. Bellmore has just returned from the Philippines, where he has been for the past three years in the U. S. service. He is now visiting at his father's place in Kirk precinct."

1913 Wray Rattler, Pleasant Ridge items "Charley Bellmore held a sale the 24th. He will visit a while in Kansas then go to California with the intention of locating there."

Charles H. Bellmore married Marcella Z. McKinzie on February 2, 1916 in Yuma.
Charles Harrison Bellmore registered for WWI with a Newton Colorado address, born August 6, 1888 at Eagelvi8lle, Missouri, with a wife and child. He had served as a private in the cavalry for three years.

1917 Wray "Mr. Bellmore and wife of Wray are staying at Mr. Sweazy's while they arc spending their vacation in the east. He will paint Mr. Sweazy's barn and the interior of the school house."

In 1930 Brush, Colorado, Charley is a painter, 41, with Marcella Z. 38, William R. 13, Thelma R. 10, and Lola M. 9.

1933 Kirk items "Charles Bellmore, formerly of Kirk but presently at Brush, brought down a truckload of potatoes and disposed of them last week end and will bring a truckload of tomatoes next week.

In 1940 Brush, Charles is a painter, 51, Marcella 48, with Lola 18 born in Kansas.

1948 Hawarden Iowa "Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Bellmore of Denver, Colo., who were called here by the death of his sister, Mrs. Walter Calahan, returned home Tuesday."
1971 Hawarden, Iowa "Mrs. John Jurgenson returned home last week from Denver, Colorado where she visited her brother Charles Bellmore at a Denver Hospital who recently submitted to surgery."

Charles H. Bellmore 1883-1972 is buried in Denver, # 139585203.
So is Marcella Z. Bellmore 1891-1980 # 139585220.


William Richard Bellmore 1916-1971 is buried in Los Angeles # 85849368.
So is Margaret Jane (Purves) Bellmore 1920-1993 # 85849367.

Thelma R. (Bellmore) Scott 1919-1966 is buried in Fort Logan, # 3370692, with Melvin Charles Scott 1921-1967.

EMMA

Emma Gertrude (Bellmore)(Green) Calahan 1886-1948 is buried in Sioux County # 109135959.
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Calahan, who died Thursday, April 29, in the home of her sister, Mrs. John Jurgenson in Hawarden, were held Saturday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home. Rev. C.W. Burnett of Sioux City, assisted by Rev. Leon Nelson, was in charge of the services. Burial was in Hawarden.

Mrs. Calahan was born at Eagleville, Mo., March 27, 1886.

In 1902 she married J.H. Green, and one son Wallace was born. Mr. Green preceded her in death by many years.

She married Walter Calahan at Canton, S. D., August 24, 1924.

Survivors are her husband; the son, Wallace Green, of Menlo Park, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Jurgenson of Hawarden and a brother, Charles H. Bellmore of Denver, Colo.

Mrs. Calahan came to Hawarden last November and ever since was cared for in the Jurgeson home. She was a member of the re-organized Latter Day Saints church.
