George Mickel Shields was born August 23, 1873 in Winterset, Iowa to Emery Shields and Frances Bender.
In 1880 Norton County, Kansas, Emery is 28, farming, born in Illinois, Francis 23 in Ohio, with George 4 born in Iowa. On the same page are Charles Shields 41 Indiana, with maria 38, William 17 and Eva 12.
In 1882, Emery Shields of Long Island, Kansas, was a witness for the land claim of James C. Taylor in 1S, 16W.

In 1895 Norton County, E. Shields is 45, F.E. 38, George 19, Grace 15, and son "Floy" 8.

In 1900 Norton County, Emery born July 1850 in Illinois is farming, married 26 years to Frances Nov 1857 Ohio, with Floyd August 1886 and Daisy G. Dec 1897.
Willie Shields 34 and wife Grace 28 and three kids are on the same page.

May 23, 1901 Onaga, Kansas "Emery Shields, of Long Island, Norton county, was visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Ma! on last week. He is an uncle of Mrs. Mai-ne, and is a farmer, and lives in a corn and alfalfa country."

In 1905 Norton County, E. Shields is 54, F.E. 45, G.M. 27, F. 18 (this must be Floyd), and D.B. Shields is 7.

One tree said Emery, born July 9, 1850 in Jackson County, Indiana, died June 6, 1909 in Norton County, Kansas.

In 1910 Norton County, Frances is widowed, 54, farming, with Floyd 22 and Daisy 12.

GEORGE

In 1910 Kit Carson County, George is 33, farming, living alone.

George M. Shields claimed two quarters in 11 and 12, too, but in 1913.

March 2, 1913 Wray "George Shields traded a calf to John McNair for a plow last week."


George Mickel Shields registered for WWI with a Stratton address, born August 23, 1874, a laborer and mechanic, neaest relative Daisy Golda Hill or Kirk, Colorado.

In 1920 George is working at a livery barn in Stratton, living with the Fred and Amy Meyers family.

In 1930 Kit Carson County, George is 54, a laborer, saying he's married, living alone.

George is living alone in 1940 Stratton, Colorado, doing odd jobs, 64.

George Shields was admitted to the Yuma Hospital in March 1950.

He's buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Stratton, dying in 1952.

DAISY

In 1920 Idalia precinct, Yuma County, Daisy 22 is married to Arthur J. Hill 24. Arthur's great uncle Andrew J. Wentworth 72 born in Indiana is with them.
(Andrew Jackson Wentworth 1848-1929 is buried in McPherson County, Kansas # 39063138, with Abigail (Parks) Wentworth 1813-1875.)

Arthur and Daisy are farming in 1930 Yuma County, with Dorothy 7.

March 24, 1932

March 2, 1939 "Mrs. Arthur Hill received a message Saturday from Kansas telling of the death of an aunt."

The three are still in Yuma County in 1940.

1945 Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hill took their daughter Dorothy to Greeley, whee she will attend college. This is her second year."

Arthur 1895-1984 is buried in the Lucas Cemetery, Yuma County # 52235743. So is Daisy (Shields) Hill 1897-1979 # 52235741.

Dorothy married Carroll Crawford, and taught in many schools, including Liberty.

June 21, 1962

In 1964 Dorothy Crawford of Joes received a degree from Colorado State Teachers College.

Carroll K. Crawford 1919-2010 is buried in Lucas Cemetery # 67407110.

His father Scott Crawford is buried in Kirk 1881-1947 # 67354373, with his mother Anna Lenore (Hyatt) Crawford

Floyd claimed two quarters in sections 11 and 12, 6S 46W in 1917.
Floyd Emery Shields registered for WWI in Burlington, born August 3, 1887 in Almena Kansas, single, farming, physically disabled.
Floyd E. Shields married Mary Fuller in Norton County, Kansas June 6, 1919.

Floyd is married in 1920 Grand Island, Nebraska, a fireman in a church, 35, with Mary 29 born in Nebraska, and Archie eleven months.

Not likely - this one was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, and was in Montana in 1920.

Archie is working as a farm hand in Saline County, Nebraska in 1940, nephew of Irwin 64 and Blanch 48 Smith.
