She is predeceased by her brother, Dr. Owen Lindsay, and is survived by her daughters, Anne Slaughter, and husband Randolph Slaughter, Jr., of Dallas; Patricia Boyd, and husband J. Kip Boyd of Midland; and Julie Robinson, and husband Boyd Robinson, of Albuquerque. Also surviving are Jan's grandson, Tanner Boyd, and wife Jasie, of Houston; and granddaughter, Lindsay Boyd Warner and husband, Mike, of Florida. Although not family by descent, Jan was also survived by many close friends of all ages. Jan and her children were blessed by their love and assistance to their mother, especially her dear friend Ernest Rager, as well as her friend that nursed her, Carmen Shannon.
Jan had an inquiring mind and throughout her life was involved in many activities. She and her husband, Jim, were founding members of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where she was on the Altar Guild, Sunday school teacher, Rector's search committee in the formative years of the church. Later she loved being involved with the Daughters of the King at St. Christopher's. She also was a docent for exhibits at the DMA, did taping for the blind, taught English as a second language, and was a faithful Girl Scout leader for her daughters' troops. Jan was an avid reader, and especially loved poetry. She was a member of Craig Class and was retired from the staff of SMU. Most people who visited with Jan quickly sensed something special about her which came from her ability to seek out and share areas of interest with almost anyone; and a sparkle in her eyes that told everyone that she was always waiting and watching for what might be around the bend, all supplemented with a considerable knowledge base of things of art and humanities and culture. She will be missed by her family and friends but she is glad to have escaped the bonds of this earthly body and be with her Lord Jesus Christ.
Services will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 4:00 PM with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Altar Guild of St. Michael's.
