Perry and Jessie (Hoffman) Koons, 6 South 45 West

Perry proved up two quarters in 26, 6 South, 45W in 1912. Witnesses were Jacob, Gottlieb, and David Schlichenmayer and Charles Bortles.


In 1880 Phillips County, Kansas, William Koons is 38, Mary M. 37, Louis H. 17, Thos A. 14, Alva M. 12, Wm. S. 10, Albert 8, Matilda A. 6, Minnie A. 5, Jane 3, and Perry 1.

In 1895 Phillips County, Wiliam is 54, Mary 53, William S. 24, Perry 16, grandsons Wesley 9, Charles A. 7, James A. 5, and Frank A. 3.
In 1900 Phillips County, Perry is the only kid living with William and Mary.
1903 Plattsmouth, Nebraska "Willie Koons, 12 years old, lost his life in an elevator by being smothered by wheat."
Jessie M. Hoffman married Perry Koons in Phillips County Sept 17, 1904.
William Koons 1841-1912, per # 55650665, died in Hyde, Colorado, and is buried in Phillips County, Kansas with Mary M. 1842-1913.

In 1905 Phillips County, Kansas, Pery Koons is 26, J.M. 18. They're with Wm. 63 and M.M. 62, and Frank 14.

Perry Koons is farming in 1910 Kit Carson County, 30, with Jessie 25, married six years, with Lottie 5 and Yoneta eleven months, all four born in Kansas.
One tree said she was Jessie Hoffman. In 1900 Phillips County, Kansas, Jessie M. born Dec 1886 in Kansas, is with Anthony 48 and Charlotte 41 Hoffman. Arthur is 17, Osar 10, Wm.R. 7, Mariah 4, and Frank seven months.
1914 Yuma, Colorado "Mrs. H. Hoffman, who had been a guest at the country home of her daughter, Mrs. Perry Koons, southwest of Yuma, departed Wednesday evening for her home, at Weeping Water, Nebr. She was accompanied by her granddaughter, Miss Elma Lowery . ."
1915 Yuma, Colorado " Perry Koons came in from Weeping Water, Nebr., last Saturday on a business mission."
1918 Plattsmouth Nebraska "We wish to thank our neighbors for all kindness shown during the sickness, death and burial of our little darling." Mr. and Mrs. Perry Koons and family.

April 22, 1920 Plattsmouth, Nebraska "The sad news was received here Sunday morning by Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hoffman announcing the death of their eldest daughter, Mrs. Edward Downing at her home in Kerwin, Kansas, Saturday evening at 11:30 after a short illness. Mrs. Downing has been suffering from the flu and it is thought that the after-effects of this malady caused her death. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman departed last night for Kansas to attend the funeral services. Mrs. Downing was forty years of age and leaves to mourn her death a husband and three children, the eldest of whom is eleven years and the youngest three. The father and mother and four brothers and two sisters are also left to mourn her passing. The brother and sisters are William Hoffman, Plattsmouth; Arthur, Oscar and Frank Hoffman of Weeping Water; Mrs. H. E. Steinhauser and Mrs. Jessie Coons of Plattsmouth.
April 14, 1921 "The funeral of the late Mrs. Perry Koons was held this afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Sieinhauer on Pearl street and was quite largely attended by the sorrowing friends who gathered to share with the family the grief that the death of this kind and loving wife and mother has brought to the community.
The services were conducted by Rev. A. V. Hunter, pastor of the Methodist church, who spoke words of comfort to the grief torn hearts of the relatives and friends and the message of hope that is brought to the faithful by the teachings of the Savior. During the service Mrs. E. II. Wescott and Mrs. Edward Roman sang two of the sweet songs Of faith, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Sun of My Soul." The wealth of floral rememberances spoke of the deep feeling of love in which Mrs. Koons had been held in the community and were beautiful in the extreme.
At the conclusion of the services the body was borne to Oak Hill cemetery where it was laid to rest in the family lot in that beautiful city of the silent.
The relatives from out of the city to attend the funeral were: Albert Koons, and Mrs. Minnie Peugh of Kerwin, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoffman, Oscar Hoffman and Miss Luella Krider, all of Weeping Water. " Jessie Koons 1886-1921 is buried in Plattsmouth Cass County, Nebraska # 114067908.

Her mother Charlotte 1858-1956 is buried in Cass County # 7915222, and Andrew 1852-1932 # 7915217. Apri 18, 1921 Plattsmouth "Mrs. Minnie Peugh and Albert Koons of Kirwin, Kansas, who wer here to attend the funeral of their sister-in-law, Mr.s Perry Koons, returned this morning on the early Burlington train for their home."

Perry Koons married Kate Huttenhow June 9, 1926, recorded in Boulder County.
Kate Stanley had married Lewis Huttenhow in Story County, Iowa January 13, 1904.
She was born in Story County, Iowa to James Stanley and Saloma Blurk.

In 1910 Story County, Lewis is farming, 34, Kate 27, with Maud 4, Lewis M.32, and Hulda A. 1.
In 1914 Kate Huttenhow of Marshalltown, Iowa received a patent for a covered ashtray.
Lewis Huttenhow registered for WWI, a patient at the Cherokee State Hospital in Marshall Iowa, nearest relative Mrs. Chas Partello, sister, of Boone, Iowa.
"Louisa" Huttenhow was in the institution in 1930, too, age 56, mareked as female.

Juanita Koons married Gilbert B. Draper September 25, 1925, recorded in Denver.
Charlotte Koons married Emil W. Sager May 23, 1935, recorded in Denver.
This is another Koons - her mother was Maud Koons born in Tennessee.
In 1928 Denver, Perry and Kate live at 1319 Champa.

Perry Koons is in 1930 Denver, a railroad carman, 50, born in Nebraska, but they didn't know the birthplace of his parents. Kate is 47 born in Iowa, and son Perry 14 in Nebraska.
Merle Huttenbow is 23, stepson, Huldah daughter 21, both born in Iowa.

Hulda "Huttenhaw" married Julian H. Bender June 26, 1933, recorded in Jefferson County, Colorado.

In 1935 Perry is a carman for the UP railroad, with Kate living at 3428 Franklin - so does Perry Jr., a laborer.

In 1940 Denver, Perry is 60, Katherine 55, Merle Huttenhow 32, Irma D. Huttenhow 27 and Louis 3.

SSDI has Perry Koons born Dec 25, 1878, dying January 14, 1953. One post said he moved to Tucson, Arizona.
The Kate S. Monger 1883-1977 buried in Littleton might be the one, # 141585136.

Juanita Lorain Draper was born in Kansas January 11, 1909 to Perry Koons and Jesse L. Hoffman, dying Oct 2, 1996. She's buried in Denver 1909-1996 # 107662775 with Gilbert 1903-1992.

Perry Jr. is in Denver in 1940, 25, born in Nebraska, a pipe welder at a foundry, married to Emma 25 Colorado, with Raymond 3 born in Colorado.
The next household is George 29, a railroad brakeman, and Elva E. 22 Huttehow, a rubber cutter at a wholesale rubber company..
George Howard Huttenhow married Elna Alvilda Swanson October 3, 1933, recorded in Denver.

Perry, born Dec 25, 1879 in Kansas, died in Tucson, Arizona on December 13, 1953, to be buried in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Perry Koons, 61, was found dead in his trailer home Sunday. Investigating officers said gas fumes were thick in the trailer from a heating stove and a gas refrigerator, both of which allowed gas to escape.

Wesley Koons filed divorce suit in Kit Carson County in June 1911.
Merle Louis Huttenhow married Irma Dee Voica June 21, 1935, recorded in Adams County, Colorado.
Merle Huttenhow 1907-1991, per # 121254968 "Born in Newton, Iowa to Lewis Huttenhow (b 1876) and Kate Huttenhow (b1883). Husband to Irma Dee Voice Huttenhow. Father of five childen, including two sets of twins, all died in infancy."
Kate Huttenhow married Milford Renfroe March 29, 1917, recorded in Morgan County.
They were in Adams County, Colorado in 1920, with the Huttenhow kids Maude 14, Murel 12, Hulda 10, and George 8.
Kate and "Wilfred" Renfroe divorced in Denver in 1925.
In 1933 Denver, Hulda A. Huttenhow works for Denver Towel Supply Co., and lives at 3806 Gilpin. So does Deorge H. Huttenhow, a driver for Bill's Cab Co. and Merle L. Huttenhow, a welder.
Hulda and Jack Bender are in Denver in 1940, living on Fillmore St. Jack is a coach cleaner for a railroad.
Hulda Bender died Feb 1, 2001, last residence St. Croix County, Wisconsin.
"HULDA A. BENDER, 92, formerly of Denver, died Feb. 1 in Glenwood City, Wis. She was born in Boone, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 1909. She married Julian H. Bender, 1939. She homesteaded near Deer Trail. Survivors include sons Jack of Denver and Julian of Wisconsin; two granddaughters"

Jack Lee Bender of Denver 1940-2013. Survived by his brother Julian (Judith) Bender, nieces Jennifer Gaskill and Stephanie Bender. He was preceded in death by his parents Julian Herman and Hulda Ann (Huttenhow) Bender. Jack's family will be greeting friends Friday from 4-6 pm at the Brooks Towers, third floor residence room, 1020 15th St., Denver
November 1969, Greeley, Colorado "Miss Judith Eichberger, daughter of Mrs. George Eichberger of Euclid, Ohio, and Julian Bender, son of Mrs. Hulda Bender of Denver, were married Friday evening, Nov. 7, in the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Marvin H. Adams was the officiating clergyman. Honor attendants were the bride's cousin, Mrs. Henry Peesel of Chicago and Jack Bender of Denver. A reception was held after the ceremony in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The newlyweds are both students at Colorado State College. The bride is a member of Alpha Xi Delta social sorority and Bender is affiliated with Sigma Chi social fraternity. After a brief honeymoon in Las Vegas, Nev., Mr. and Mrs. Bender now reside in Greeley."
