Homer and Winifred (Friday) Cox, Elmer A. and Sarah (Martin) Friday, 6 South 46 West
Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, at Draucker Mortuary in Ogallala for Ola Winifred Cox, 94, of Ogallala, who died March 4, 1982, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala. Rev. Eschliman conducted the services. Burial was in the Ogallala Cemetery. She was the mother of Howell W. Cox of Fort Calhoun and the grandmother of Kathryn (Mrs. Guenther) Schwartz of Blair. Ola Winifred Freitag Cox was born July 14, 1887, in Saline County, Nebraska, to Johann (John) and Johanne (Johanna) Glander (Friday) Freitag. She attended school at Western, Nebraska, through the eight grade and then cared for the ill and newborn until going to eastern Colorado where she homesteaded near what is now Kirk, Colorado. She married Homer Waldo Cox on April 25, 1915 in Burlington, Colorado. They lived on the homestead until their son, Howell, was of school age and then moved to Ogallala, Nebraska. She was a member of the Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women, and had been a member of the WCTU for many years. She was a member and historian of the Ogallala Federated Woman's Club for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer, in February, 1961; two sons, Glenn Wendell, at birth; and Paul Winfield in February, 1936; her parents; four brother; and four sisters. She is survived by one son, Howell Winfred Cox, and his wife, Beverly, both of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. Two grandchildren, Curtis Wayne Cox, Oxen Hill, Maryland, and Kathryn Ann (Mrs. Guenther L.) Schwartz, two great-grandchildren, Christopher Paul and Elizabeth Shanti Schwartz, all of Blair; one brother, Curtis Roy Friday, West Point, Mississippi; and nieces and nephews also survive her. Draucker Mortuary in Ogallala was in charge of arrangements and services. |

Mrs. Ruth Cate of Scappoose, Oregon; Mrs. Ila Nenstiel of Wisconsin; and Mrs. Loribel Akins of coin; sisters. Mrs. Cora Allpreai of Western, Mrs. Josephine Staler of Kearney and Mrs. Winifred Cox of Ogallala, and brother Curtis of West Point, Mississippi. |
Greenwood, South Carolina - January 20, 1979 Mrs. Sarah Martin Friday, 89, widow of Elmer A. Friday, died this morning in the Greenwood Nursing Home. Born in Shelby County, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late James and Laura Stewart Martin. She had made her home in Greenwood for the past 16 months. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James L. Cate of Scappoose, Oregon, Mrs. Clyde Nenstiel of Muskcola, Wisconsin, Mrs. John (Lorie) Akins of Greenwood; six sons, Everett Friday of Melbete, Neb., Lee Roy Friday of Sanibel, Florida, John Friday of Phoenix, Ariz., Lowell Friday of Clackamas, Oregon, Ray Friday of Charleston and Roger Friday of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Mrs. Mary Hitchcock of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one step-greatgrandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reuel Westbrook officiating. Burial will be in Western, Nebraska, at a date to be announced. |
