Martin and Henrietta (Rabat / Rubat) Motzkus , 6 South 44 West

Martin arrived in Johnson County, Kansas in 1883, born about 1850 in Germany.
Martin timber-claimed a quarter in 8, 6S 44W in 1895, cash-claimed a quarter in 9 in 1890, and proved up one in 17 in 1893..

He might be the Martin Motzkus 1850-1897, buried in Johnson County Kansas # 32108856, Henrietta C. (Rudat( Motzkus 1849-1935 buried in Council Bluffs, Iowa next to sister Elizabeth # 76402514.
In 1900 DeKalb County, Missouri, Henrietta K Motzkus is widowed, born Nov 1849 in Germany. Ausust C. September 1880 Germany, Frederick W. March 1882 Kansas, Henry M. July 1885 Nebraska, and Frank H. May 1888 Colorado are all farm laborers.
In 1920 Henrietta is living with daughter Elizabeth 43 and her husband John W. Kelly, 47, farming in Cedar County, Missouri. Her sister Elizabeth Riermann 77 is also with them.

Henry Martin Motzkus, born July 20, 1886 in Nebraska, died October 8, 1948 in Los Angeles.


Frank H. Motzkus and Nellie Plymale, both of King City, Missouri, were issued a mrriage license in Gentry County September 25, 1909.
1968 Gentry County, Missouri "Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel for Frank Herman Motzkus, 79, of Stanberry, who was taken by death Sunday in a St. Joseph hospital following a long illness. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Russell Evans of Island City and burial was in the High Ridge cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nellie Motzkus, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Arlene McQuinn; three sons, Paul Motzkus and Jewell Motzkus, both of Las Animas, Colo., and Kenneth Motzkus of Kansas City. He also is survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Motzkus, son of the late Herman Martin and Henrietta Rudot Motzkus, was born May 10, 1888 in Burlington, Colo. When he was a small boy the family moved to a farm near King City. He and the former Miss Nellie Plymale were united in marriage on September 26, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. Motzkus lived on a farm near King City until February, 1930, when they moved to Stanberry. Mr. Motzkus served as a Wabash Railway Co. section employee for about 20 years. He retired in 1956. Mr. Motzkus was a member of the Island City Christian church at one time. He later transferred his membership to the Stanberry Christian church.
Frank is buried in Gentry County # 53943601.

December 6, 1951 - Gentry County, Missouri
"Mrs. Elizabeth A. Kelly, widow of John W. Kelly, engineer at the city pumping station here in an early day, died Friday afternoon at the Missouri Methodist hospital at St. Joseph, where she had been a patient for about 10 days. Mrs. Kelly who was 74 years old, had lived in Stanberry the past three years and had been a resident of Stanberry and Gentry county at other times.

She was born in East Prussia, Germany, Jan. 29, 1877, the daughter of Martin and Henrietta Rudat Motzkus. At the age of four years she came with her parents to the United Stateds and they settled and lived for several years at Kansas City. The family also lived in Nebraska.

In her early life she was a welfare worker on Indian reservations. She worked for several years near Ponca City, Okla., and later at Phoenix, Ariz. While working at Phoenix, she was married to Mr. Kelly on Jan. 1, 1905 and both continued their work with the Indians for several years.
During their married life they lived in Stanberry, on a farm near McCurry, at Council Bluffs, Ia., and a West Plains, Mo. About three years ago they returned to Stanberry from West Plains and his death occurred here Oct. 12, 1948.
She had been a member of the Methodist church for many years.
Surviving are two brothers, Fred Motzkus and Frank Motzkus, both of Stanberry."
