Herman L. and Emma Korthas , 6 South 44 West


Herman L. Korthas and Emma Shinowskey had Walter Korthas on March 14, 1899 in Union Township, Woodbury County, Iowa.
In 1900 Woodbury County, Iowa, Herman is farming, born Dec 1864 in Illinois, married eleven years to Emma M. March 1867 Illinois, have Nellia A. April 1892, Maggie July 1896, and Walter March 1899, all three born in Iowa.
H.L. "Kerthas" and Emma "Shegwofsky" had Herman on February 15, 1904 in Plymouth County, Iowa.

In 1910 they're farming in Kit Carson County, Herman 44, Emily W. 41, Nellie 18, "Magge" 13, Walter 12, and Herman 6, all four kids born in Iowa.
Herman proved up two quarters in sections 34 and 35, 6S 44W in 1913, and another 40 acres in section 34 for Stock-raising, in 1923.
Witnesses were Isaac H. Helmick, John Kakober, W.M. Kroeger, and Joseph B. Jones.

Korthas, H. L., Farmer and Breeder of Registered Duroc Jersey Hogs, S. 35, T. G, R. 44, P. O. Burlington. Mr. Korthas was born in Illinois in 1865, settled in Kit Carson County in 1906, and married Emma Sichenoshy. They have four children.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Herman and Emma have Herman 15, Walter 20, Nellie 24 i- a printer in an office - and Margaret 23. (Next household is widowed Phlip Brunemeier 34 with his four kids.

In 1930 Kit Carson County, Herman 64 and Emma 63 are farming with Walter 31.
In 1940 Kit Carson County, Emma, 75, widowed, is living with Walter, 41, farming.
Herman 1865-1932, # 89580545 and Emma W. 1867-1945 are buried in Burlington.

NELLIE
In 1915 Des Moines, Iowa, Nellie is a waitress in a restaurant, single.

1916 Rock Island Illinois - Cambridge items "Miss Nellie Korthas left Monday for her home at Burlington, Colorado."
Although she's listed in Kit Carson County with her parents in 1920 she might be the one in Des Moines, Iowa in 1920, a cylinder feeder at a printer, 27, born in Iowa, boarding with a family.
There's a Nellie Korthas in 1930 Floyd County, Iowa, 37, born in Iowa, rooming with David and Minnie Rhinesmitch. She's an office assistant.
1932 Sumner, Iowa "Miss Nellie Korthas of Charles City (Iowa) visited friends her Wednesday.
1937 Centerville, Iowa "Mrs. Verna Binninger, Mrs. Ellingson and two sons and Nellie Karthas spent Friday afternoon in Ottumwa.

Nellie A. Korthas might be the one filing suit in Lincoln Nebraska in 1940 against Thomas E. Bradstreet.

Nellie E. Korthas 1892-1963 is buried in Burlington, # 89580562.

MAGGIE
Margaret A. Korthas, age 23, married "Philif" Brunemeier, 35, in Burlington on April 7, 1920.
Philip had married Louise Jacober in 1909, and she had died in 1918.
In 1940 Larimer County, Philip is farming, 55, born in Russia, Margaret A. 44, Iowa, with Margaret L. 19, Violet L. 15, Kenneth E. 14, and Rozella M. 8, all four born in COlorado.
Margaret 1896-1957 # 40085838 and Philip Brunemeier 1885-1949 are buried in Loveland, Colorado.
Violet L. Schachtele 1924-1996 is buried in Fort Logan # 1155341.
Rozella Marie Brunemeier was born January 31, 1932 at Burlington, and name changed in 1951 to Rozella Royer. In 1960 she and Marvin Royer were living in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She died January 12, 1993.

William BRUNEMEIER, 90, of Loveland died June 14, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Denver. He was born March 21, 1915, in Burlington, to Philip and Elizabeth Jacober Brunemeier. He attended school in Burlington. He married Clara Brunmeier on Feb. 8, 1938, in Loveland. He was the owner of United Rental in Fort Collins and was a paint contractor for Bill Painting Co. in Longmont. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945 during World War II. He served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Loveland. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, yard work and traveling. He is survived by a son, Harvey Brunemeier and wife Kathryn of Westminster; a daughter, Carolyn Snider and husband Ronald of Kearney, Neb.; a brother, Kenneth Brunemeier and wife Jean; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 6, 2003, one daughter and one granddaughter. Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Congregational Church, 800 N. Lincoln Ave, Loveland. Burial will be in Loveland Burial Park.



WALTER
1934 - a news dispatch said "Walter B. Korthas, a farmer living in the hamlet of Kit carson, Colorado exaggerated the extent of pig-crop reduction, and the dispatch said he ws sentenced to 18 months in the penitentiary.

Walter R. Korthas 1899-1951 # 89580579 is buried in Burlington, with the same style of marker as Nellie.

HERMAN
In 1930 Kit Carson County, Herman Jr. is 26, farming, with Tina 21 Kansas. They have Clarence 5, Raymond 2, and Cleo 1.
Herman 1903-1961 is buried in Burlington # 89580533, on the same stone as daughter Cora J. 1930-1932, and Tina F. (Lundy) Tow 1908-1985 in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Patricia Sommerville joined her heavenly Father December 5, 2010. She had battled with chronic COPD for over ten years. Patricia was born in Burlington, Colorado to Herman and Tina (Lundy) Korthas. She was raised by her mother and step father, Henry "Shorty" Tow after her parents divorced. Patricia came to live in Grand Junction after her first husband Marvin Janes died suddenly in 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This left her with the duty of raising their two daughters as a single mother.

She was active in the Equestrian Side Saddle Riding group, Frontier Bells, for several years. Pat enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter, enjoyed camping, fishing, riding ATV's and snow machines. She loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo L. Sommerville; both of her parents; first husband, Marvin Janes; brothers, Allen Korthas, Ray Korthas, Don Korthas, Richard Korthas, Russ Tow and Boyd Tow; sisters, Cora Korthas, and Alice (Korthas) Phelps.
----------------------------------------- Cleo Mae Akers passed away at Longmont United Hospital on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011, at age 82. She was born on December 2, 1928, in Burlington, Colorado, and was the daughter of Herman and Tina (Lundy) Korthas. They moved to the Mead/Longmont area, and she attended school there. She married Norlin J. Akers on April 26, 1947, and lived in Longmont, Grand Junction and most recently Loveland. She was a homemaker and worked part time in the lab at the Great Western Sugar Factory. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, knitting, sewing, quilting and stained glass. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her son, John R., three sisters and six brothers.

Patricia Deloris (Tow) Korthas was born on 10 January 1935 at Burlington, Kit Carson, Colorado. She married Marvin Earl Janes, son of Earl Forrester Janes and Gladys Lucille Unzicker, on 8 November 1952 at Lyons, Boulder, Colorado, USA.
