Kit Carson County Pioneers:

Rhinehart and Barabara Briegel, son Edward, grandsons James Emmett Briegel, Edward Kerwin Briegel, 6 South 44 West

"Rainhard" Briegel was naturalized March 30, 1876 in Racine County, WIsconsin, born in Bavaria, Germany, age 22. He immigrated October 1869 through New York.
Louis J. Briegel was born August 12, 1879 in Geneva, WIsconsin to Reinhard Briegel and Maggie Murphy. THIS IS A DIFFERENT ONE.

In 1880 Geneva, Wisconsin, Reinhard is a harness maker, married to Margarett 19, with Louis nine months.


In 1900 Grundy County, Missouri, Rhinehart Briegel born Jan 1852 in Germany, , married 23 years to Barbara born Oct 1843 Ohio, have Maude Jan 1877, Edward March 1878, Rosa Oct 1879, Clara March 1884, and Addie Jan 1889, all kids born in Missouri.
In 1910 Elbert County, Colorado, Rhinehart is a farm laborer, 63, Barbara 67, living alone.

Barbara (Lenz) Briegel, 1844-1912 is buried in Grundy County # 41435606 "Daughter of John Lenz and Latherine Moorhand."

1918 Haswell, Colorado "Mrs. S.L. Willson, mother of Sidney Willson, Mrs. Charles and Mrs. J.G. Kerwin, mother of Mrs. Ed. Briegel, arrived Monday afternoon for a few weeks visit. They came from St. Louis, Mo., making the trip by auto.

1919 Haswell "Mr. and Mrs. Solomon "Lens" who have been visiting at the Ed. Briegel home, returnede to Missouri this week."


In 1920 Lincoln County, Colorado, Rinehart Brigel 68 born in Germany, is widowed, with son Edward 39 and his wife Jessie 28, both born in Missouri. Edward K. is three months old. Rose Briegel, 37, born in Missouri, is also with them.

Edward Briegel claimed three quarters for Stock Raising in 16S 51W - Cheyenne County, Colorado in 1921.
Edward's witnesses were Frank A. "Rahn" of Ordway, Rinehardt Briegel, Charles Briley and CHester Long, all of Haswell.

The Briegels acquired eighty acres in section 14 and 23, 6S 44W by a public land sale.

1942 Kiowa County, Colorado

June 1953 - Haswell, Colorado items "Mrs. Edward Briegel, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Brietel and small son, Allen, and Kerwin Briegel were in town on business Thursday."
Edward Kerwin Briegel, born Sept 9, 1919 at Limon, Colroado died August 31, 20006.

Rosa C. Briegel 1879-1945 is buried in Grundy County, # 9491693.

Meda in 1920 is married to Frank H. Rahm, and they're farming in Crowley County, Colorado with Frances E. 13, Robert B. 11, Clarence O. 9, Clifton M. 8, and Albert G. 4.
Meda Matilda Rahm 1876-1949 is buried in Forest Lawn Glendale, California # 117034609, with Frank Herbert Rahm 1874-1951.


Chillicothe, Missouri, February 1963
"Mrs. Adaline Gibson, a former Chillicothe and Trenton resident, died Monday evening at the home of her niece, Mrs. Clifton (Marie) Kailey, in Los Angeles, where she had made her, home for three years, The body will be taken to the Slater Funeral Home for funeral services.

Mrs. Gibson was born Jan. 13, 1889, eight miles northwest of Trenton, the daughter of Rhinehart and Barbara Lenz Briegel. She attended Locust Grove rural school and Trenton high school. She was married to Elbert I. Coulter at Trenton on June 17, 1911. Mr. Coulter died on Jan. 15, 1918. She was then employed at the J. C. Penney Co. in Trenton. On Feb. 21, 1926, she was married to Henry Homer Gibson at Kansas City. They resided in Trenton until 1941, when they moved to Parsons, Kan. When Mr. Gibson retired, they moved to Chillicothe in 1956. Mr. Gibson died Oct. 31, 1958. In October, 1959, Mrs. Gibson moved to Los Angeles and made her home with her niece, Mrs. Kailey. She was a member of the Chillicothe Assembly of God Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to Railway Trainmen, Parsons, Kan. While residing in Chillicothe, she made her home on State street.

Her survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Kailey, Los Angeles, and Mrs. W. C. Pearce, San Jose, Calif., and five nephews, Robert, Ted and Albert Rham, Los Angeles, and Emmett and Kerwin Briegel, Eads, Colo. There are several cousins in Grundy County. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Friday afternoon at the Slater Funeral Home at Trenton. The Rev. Orville Grace, minister of the Assembly of God Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in the family lot at the Maple Grove cemetery at Trenton.
