Carl William and Olin Zick, 6 South 43 West
In 1885 Kearney County, Nebraska, Wm. Zick is 44, Minnie 37, with Herman 18, Charles 16, Fred 14, Lena 12, and Anna 6.
. Anna was born in Illinois, all the rest in Germany.
William Zick filed for land in 36 5 1/2 S 44W in 1900 with witnesses Harm E. Boden and Nanne Boden of Idalia, and John G. Fleur and William Wall of Landsman.
In 1900 Idalia precinct, William, born August 1841 in Germany, married 33 years to Minnie Nov 1847, living alone. Next household is Herman born Sept 1866 Germany.
1904 Idalia items "Carl Zick is completing the necessary over-hauling of his separator and engine for opening the threshing season in this vicinity.
William proved up 232 acres in 6, 6 South, 43W in 1914.
Carl W. cash-claimed a quarter in 35 and 36, 5 1/2S 44W in 1894.

1902 "Mr. and Mrs. Hardin A. Haineline of Burlington, COlorado, visited wih their relatives Carl and Herman Zick over Sunday.
1903 Idalia items "Carle Zick announces that it is his intention to build a hotel and livery barn in town in the near future."
1904 "Miss Minnie Homm of Hale was visiting her sister, Mr.s Carl Zick.
1905 "Carl W. Zick and brother, Newman, of Newton, hauled the last of the former's goods from the Idalia hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Zick's many friends will miss them very much.

In 1920 Burlington, Herman is 52, immigrating in 1864, a dray driver, living with brother Carl's family.
In 1930 Kit Carson County, Herman is 63, still living alone.
In 1910 Idalia precinct, Herman is living alone, farming, 43, born in Germany.
CARL
Carl William Julius Zick of Newton, married Crolina Hann "Hamm" December 6, 1898 at Goff, Kit Carson County. Carl was 30, Lena 18, witness Anna Zick.

Carl Zwick [sic] Keeps an Excellent Hotel at Idalia
It is seldom a traveler finds such a well conducted hotel in a small village as that of which Idalia can boast. While the building is modest in its proportions, Carl W. Zick, the genial proprietor, makes it an inviting home for guests.
Mr. Zick is a native of New Stettin, Germany, where he was born in 1868. In 1872 he came to the United States with his parents, and the family located on an Illinois farm, south of Chicago. In 1885 they moved to Nebraska, where they remained one year and went to Goodland, Kan. After two years there they came to Colorado. The subject of this brief sketch then filed on a pre-emption claim on Lost Man's creek, twelve miles south-east of Idalia on which he has made great improvements. He cultivates fifty acres, corn and cane for his stock being his chief crops. He owns twelve horses and forty cattle, his farm being well supplied with buildings, agricultural implements, etc.
Mr. Zick is a carpenter, too, and his services in that capacity are always in demand. Nearly one year ago he purchased some lots in Idalia, on which he erected his hotel and barn. He believed that a hotel would prove a profitable investment and the result has more than justified his expectations. Mrs. Zick gives the kitchen her personal supervision and the dining room is well supplied with the substantials of life and the delicacies of the season. Certainly this hotel is a great convenience to travelers who visit Idalia and it well merits the generous support it is receiving.
In 1898 Mr. Zick married Miss Lena Homm, of that part of the county, and they have three interesting children. They are a cheerful, energetic and industrious couple who work hard to overcome the obstacles in life's journey, and the success they are achieving is well merited. Travelers who stop at the Idalia House are assured of good food, deliciously prepared.

1911 "H. Hainline and Carl Zick returned this week from Kansas City, where they purchased a new White Steamer for Herman Zick.
December 1911 - Herman and C.W. Zick both had telephones on Rural Line 101, - 24 phones on that line, including the Broadswords and Kroeger families.
In 1920 Burlington, Carl "Fick" is 51 managing the telegraph office, with Lena, 39, born in Illinois, with Carl 20, Albert 14, Winnie 12, Elsie 8, Edna 7, Selma 5, and Earl 2.
In 1930 Phillips County, Colorado, Carl is an auto machinist, 30, with Katherine 31 born in Kansas, a countermaid at the Central Hotel.
They're still in Holyoke in 1940, no kids, and Carl is working on his own as a mechanic.
Carl William Zick, Jr. 1899-1972 is buried in Holyoke, Colorado # 76843393, with Katherine K. (Keever) Zick 1893-1970.
ANNA
Anna Zick married Harden Hainline October 15, 1902, recorded in Kit Carson COunty.
In 1910 Kit Carson County, Harden is a barber, 39, born iNmissouri, Anna 32 Illinioi, with Aruth M. 4 Colorado.
They're in Burlington in 1920 and 1930, with only Ruth Marie, 14.
Harden 1870-1951 is buried in Burlington # 88586095,
with Anna 1879-1956 # 88586072.
Ruth Marie Hainline, born Dec 8, 1905, married Orin Cecil Milburn in 1941, and died 2002.
A girl born in Burlington in 1925 "took dance lessons from Ruth Milburn for many years as a child and teenager. "
"Orin C. Milburn, 102 years of age, of Denver, Colorado died on May 29, 2004. He was born on March 6, 1902 at Grantville, Kansas, and attended school in Topeka before moving with his family to Odell, Nebraska and then to Beatrice, Nebraska. He completed 11 years in the Beatrice Schools, then quit during the war to work at the Beatrice National Bank. Following the war, he completed his high school education in 1921. He then enrolled at Bradley College in a polytechnic course. In 1923, he moved to Burlington, Colorado where he established a jewelry and watchmaker store until 1950. He also owned and operated Burlington's Midway Theatre from 1928 to 1938. While in Burlington, he served on the town council for three terms, was chairman of the selective service board for three years, and was chairman of the Kit Carson County Red Cross in 1946.
On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1941, he was married to Ruth Hainline. He sold his business in Burlington in December of 1950 and moved to Wheat Ridge in February of 1952. He was a member of the Burlington Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M. and served as Master in 1945. He was a charter member and secretary emeritus of Wheat Ridge Lodge No. 187 and at the time of his death, he was a member of Albert Pike Lodge No. 117. He was a member of Peace Chapter No. 151 affiliating with Lakewood Chapter No. 139 in June of 2000. He was a member of Rocky Mountain Consistory No. 2 and the El Jebel Shrine Wild West Class of 1957. On his 90th birthday, he received his past masters degree at the Special Communication held in Golden, Colorado.
Survivors include one sister, Donna Bowen of Pocatello, Idaho. One nephew, Richard Bowen of Pocatello, Idaho. Two nieces, Virginia Folwell of Hemet, California and Betty Jo Grimm of Overland Park, Kansas. Several great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth who died in 2002. There will be no services. The body was cremated and burial of the cremains has taken place in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice, Nebraska on July 15, 2004. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice, Nebraska in charge of arrangements."

ALBERT
Alta Irene "Billie" Zick of Yuma was born December 11, 1910 near Indianola, Nebraska to James I. and Mary Ardella (Brittain) McEwen. She passed away October 20, 1994 in the nursing home at Yuma at the age of 83.
Alta attended beauty school in Denver and operated a beauty shop in Burlington for many years. In 1939 she married Albert Zick. They were later divorced.
Preceding her in death were her parents James and "Della," brothers Alva, Clarence, Floyd "Bud," Clifford, Claude and an infant boy, and sister Jeanettie "Nettie" Rockwell.
Survivors include brothers LeRoy "Jack" of Winlock, Washington and Robert of Portland, Oregon; sisters Stella Bahler of Holyoke and Beulah Soehner and Maxine Brenner of Wray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Albert R. Zick - 1906-1978 is buried in Burlington.
