Sarah Story Miser
Sarah Story Miser was born December 4, 1843 at Annapolis, being a daughter of Harrison and Elizabeth (McClave) Story. She was reared as a United Presbyterian. At the age of ten years she went with her parents to Indiana, in which state she later taught school for several years. She returned to Ohio where she was married on October 1, 1871 to George A. Miser. To them were born seven children now living: Charles E. Miser, Burlington, Colorado; Lorena G. Fletcher, Pawnee City, Nebraska; Josephine L. Ferrell, Carrollton; Georgia A. Martin, Elyria; Nellie M. Miser, Carrollton; Walter G. Miser, Pierre, South Dakota; Alice Isabelle Gruber, Unionport. After her marriage, she and her husband united with the Presbyterian church at Annapolis, of which church se was a member at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, seven children, twenty-one grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Alice Story of Pawnee City, Nebraska and a brother, Mason Story of Lewiston, Nebraska. In 1926 she removed to Carrollton where she died January 15, 1929, at the age of eighty five years.

Pawnee City, Pawnee County, Nebraska
MISER-EDGERTON--At the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Edgerton, nine miles southwest of Pawnee City, Mr. Charles E. Miser and Miss Emma Edgerton, Rev. H. E. Myers, officiating. The ceremony took place in the presence of quite a large number of relatives and friends. The bride was neatly and beautifully attired in a changeable blue, while the groom wore the conventional black. After congratulations and well wishes were said, the happy couple and guests partook of a very nicely prepared dinner. The manner in which it was consumed showed the appreciation of those present for delicious viands. A good-sized center table fairly groaned under the load of handsome and useful presents given, which speaks much of the esteem in which the young people are held by their many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Miser are young people of wide acquaintance and are possessed of superior moral and intellectual characters and have the hearty good wishes of a host of friends as they launch on their voyage of life together.
In 1910 Pawnee County, Nebraska, Chales is 38, married eleven years to Emma G. 34 Nebraska. Lorena is 10 Kansas, Gertrude 9, Kanss, Eidth M. 6 Kansas, Geo. G. 4, Albert H. 2, and John two months were born in Neraska.
In 1920 Kit Carson County, Charles is 48, Emma E. 46, Lorean 20, Helen 18, Edith 16, George 14, Alber 12, John E. 9, Nebraska, Halie L. 8, Mary 6, June B. 3, and Margaret six months, - these four born Colorado.
In 1930 Kit Carson County, Charles is 58, Emma 54, Hallie L. 18, mary E. 16, June B. 13, and Margaret G. 10.
In 1940 Kit Carson County, Charles E. Miser is 68, widowed, farming, living alone.
On the same page is William Broadsword and his father Israel - and they were on the same page in 1920.Charles Ellsworth Miser was born at Annapolis, Ohio, Nov. 15, 1871. He lived with his family until at the age of 23 he moved to Pawnee City, Neb., in August, 1895. There he married Emma E. Edgerton on Nov. 30, 1898, and she preceded him in death March 24, 1937. To this union were born ten children, all of whom are living except Margaret Geraldine, who passed away in 1934.
From Pawnee City he moved to Burlington in the fall of 1910 where he homesteaded and lived until the time of his death July 3, 1944, at the age of 72 years, seven months and 18 days.
While a young man he was converted and baptized into the United Brethren Church of Pawnee City. He was a kind and loving father, an honorable and upright citizen respected by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his passing the following children: George E. Miser and June B. Starkey of Aberdeen, Idaho; John E. Miser, of American Falls, Idaho; Helen G. Clark of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Lorena V. Kennedy of Kimberly, Idaho; Edith M. Wells and Hallie L. Winfrey of Burlington; Mary E. Winfrey of Nevada, Mo., and Albert H. Miser, who is with the armed forces overseas. Besides these he leaves 23 grandchildren, one brother, five sisters, and a host of friends.
Emma Elizabeth Edgerton was born at Pawnee City, Neb., in the year 1875, and departed this life March 24, 1937, at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 22 days, following a short illness caused by a heart attack.
She was united in marriage to Chas. E. Miser in 1898 at Pawnee City, Neb., where they made their home until coming to Burlington, Colo., in 1910.
To this union were born ten children who are living except Margaret Geraldine who passed away in 1934.
At an early age she was converted and baptized into the United Brethren Church. She took an active interest in the work of the church, being especially useful in the Sunday School.
She was a kind and loving wife and mother, loved and respected by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Chas. E. Miser, nine children, Mrs. R. J. Kennedy, Eden, Idaho, Mrs. W. S. Clark of Coeur d'Alene, Ida., George, Albert and John Miser, all of Aberdeen, Idaho, Mrs. Everett Winfrey of Aberdeen, Idaho, Mrs. Clifton Winfrey of Burlington and Mrs. Ole Starkey of Aberdeen, Ida. Three brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Eva D. Rafter, Mrs. Sadie Plummer, Mrs. Ella Jacobs, Clyde Edgerton, George Edgerton, all of Puyallup, Wash., and Lafe Edgerton of Pawnee City, Neb. Besides these there are twenty grandchildren and a host of friends.
LORENA
LORENA VIOLA MISER KENNEDY, 95
Born September 7, 1899, in Seneca, Kansas, Lorena Viola Miser Kennedy left this earth to be with her Lord on April 3, 1995. She was the daughter of Charles and Emma Miser. Lorena had three brothers and six sisters. She grew up and went to school in Burlington, Colorado and then to college in Greeley, Colorado, after which she taught for several years in country schools around Burlington. Lorena met Raymond Joseph Kennedy during this time and they were married June 18, 1922, at her parents' home. They lived in Colorado several years, moving to Aberdeen, Idaho in 1926. They later moved to American Falls, then the Eden/Hazelton area, and to Jerome in 1938. In 1944 they moved to Kimberly, where they lived until 1984 when they moved to Boise to live with their son, John. Lorena and Raymond celebrated over 62 years together. Raymond died February 19, 1985.
Lorena and Raymond were the parents of seven children: Ruby E. Kennedy of Twin Falls; Harold R. Kennedy, now deceased; Alice (John) Carter of Mission Viejo, California; Clifford E. Kennedy and John L. Kennedy of Boise; Elaine R. Schmidt of Kimberly; Floyd D. Kennedy, now deceased; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Kennedy, of Pocatello. There are six grandsons: Raymond (Marsha) Kennedy, Mark Kennedy, Steven Kennedy, Gregg Kennedy, Winston Kennedy and Keith Kennedy. Seven grandaughters: Janet (Dick) Holmes, Anita (Jack) Bliss, Teresa (Richard) Schell, Kathryn (Richard) Jensen, Kim Kennedy, Karen (Todd) Biggs, and Sharon (Larry) Brown. Ten great grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and four step-great-great grandchildren.
Lorena was an accomplished pianist and played for the churches she attended. She also taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of Kimberly Christian Church.
Interment in Twin Falls cemetery.
MARGARET
Margaret Geraldine Miser, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Miser, was born at her home near Burlington, Colorado, June 13, 1919, and died May 19, 1934, aged 14 years, 11 months and 6 days.
She was stricken with pneumonia May 16, and everything was done to save her life but in vain.
Margaret was of a happy and cheerful disposition and greatly beloved. She had just completed her first year's work in the Burlington high school. She was a girl that enjoyed her school work and admired her friends. She was staying in the home of Mrs. Wm. Hendricks while attending high school. She was very much of a home-loving girl.
She leaves to miss her besides her parents, six sisters and three brothers; Mrs. Lorena V. Kennedy of Hazelton, Idaho; Mrs. Helen G. Clark, Mrs. Edith M. Wells, George E. Miser, Mrs. Mary E. Winfrey, Mrs. Hallie L. Winfrey, and Mrs. June B. Starkey, all of Burlington; Albert H. Miser of Aberdeen, Idaho and John E. Miser of Haxtun, Colorado.
RUTH CLARK - first wife of Raymond Wells
The funeral of Mrs. Ruth C. Wells, the wife of Raymond Wells, living in Kit Carson county, Colo., near Burlington, was held Monday, Dec. 1, at 2 P.M. from the Methodist church in this city. Rev. J. L. Daniels of Edson officiating. Raymond Wells in the oldest son of Aaron Wells.
The remains of the deceased arrived here Sunday from Pueblo, Colo., where she died in the State Hospital of general peritonitis, following confinement. Her infant child survived. She passed away Saturday, November 29, the child having been born on the 18th.
Mrs. Wells was 22 years of age and leaves, besides the husband, four children, three boys and one girl. Mrs. Wells maiden name was Clark and she was the daughter of Mrs. Townsend, nee Clark, who now resided in southeastern Kansas. She has a brother, R. R. Clark, residing about eight miles southwest of this city. The Clark family were early settlers in Sherman county, having lived four miles west of Goodland, where the father died of consumption about 12 years ago.

EDITH MISER - second wife of Raymond Wells
SERVICES TODAY FOR EDITH WELLS
Graveside services will be held to day for Edith Mabel Wells at 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Wells died March 24 in Tulare, Calif., and funeral services were held March 28 in California.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucile Branscum of Whittier, Calif.; a step-daughter, Ruby McBalley of Michigan; a son, John Wells of Sterling; three step-sons, Frederick Wells of Pueblo, Everett Wells of Billerica, Mass., Carl Wells of Los Angeles; five sisters, one brother, 25 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Wells was a former Burlington resident and had lived at Tulare the past eight years. She was a school teacher.

Edith's daughter Helen Elaine Wells 1935-1935 is also buried in Burlington # 89719168.
The sad news was received in Goodland Wednesday of last week by A. R. Wells that his little grandson had been killed that day near his home in Colorado by the overturning of an auto. The machine rolled once and a half over crushing the boy's skull, causing instant death. The rest of the occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries.
Talma Aaron Wells was born November 18, 1913 and passed away October 3, 1917, age three years, ten months, and fifteen days. He is survived by a father, two brothers and a sister, his mother having preceded him to the Great Beyond. The sympathy of all is extended the bereaved relatives in their time of sorrow.

"The body of the infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wells, living 20 miles south of Burlington, was brought to Goodland Saturday night, and burial was made Sunday in the Goodland cemetery. The child was only a few days old. Mr. Wells is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Wells of this city".

HALLIE
Hallie Lucille (Miser) Winfrey traveled from her earthly home to her heavenly home on August 16, 2009 at the age of 97 yrs, 7 mo, 24 days in Lakewood, Pierce County, WA. Hallie was born on December 23, 1911, the fourth daughter and seventh child of ten born to Charles Ellsworth and Emma Elizabeth (Edgerton) Miser. She lived with her parents on their farm north of Burlington, Kit Carson County, CO. She attended Greeley State Teacher's College in Greeley, CO and taught school before and after her marriage.
On February 20, 1932, Hallie married Everett Lee Winfrey who was raised on a neighboring farm and was farming in Kit Carson County, CO. They continued to farm in this same area and during this time two sons were born, Howard Lee and Donald Leroy.
Hallie was saved and baptized September 2, 1932, as a member of Liberty Baptist Church which met at Happy Hollow School, Burlington, CO. Everett and Hallie accepted the call into the ministry in 1947 and entered into Bible School at Faith Bible Academy, Camdenton, MO. They later took further training at Tennessee Temple Schools, Chattanooga, TN. For 35 years they pastored 11 churches in 9 states. Whether singing, playing the piano and organ, or teaching, Hallie's love for ministering to others, shone through. She was often described as ‘The perfect pastor's wife.'
Hallie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 brothers; George, Albert and John and 5 sisters, Lorena, Helen, Edith, June and Margaret. She leaves behind 2 sons and daughter-in-law; Howard Winfrey of Manton, CA and Don (Sheri) Winfrey, Lakewood, WA; 3 grandchildren, Melinda (Steve) Alongi, Oakdale, CA; Ramona Winfrey, Prather, CA; David (Paulann) Winfrey, Gig Harbor, WA; and 4 great-grandchildren, Matt Alongi, Amy (Travis) Mankle, Teresita and Marina Winfrey; 1 sister, Mary Conkling, Des Moines, IA; 4 sisters-in-law, Lola Rhoades, Burlington, CO, Mary Beth Winfrey, Yates Center, KS, Beth Winfrey, Gainesville, FL and Ellen Winfrey, Independence, MO.
ALBERT
March 29, 1956 - - ALBERT MISER DIES IN VET HOSPITAL
Albert Howard Miser, son of Charles and Emma Edgerton Miser, passed away at the Veterans's Hospital in Boise, Sunday, March 25th at the age of 48 years, four months and 27 days after a short illness.
He was born October 28, 1907, at Pawnee City, Nebraska, and at the age of two years moved with his parents to Burlington, Colorado, where he grew to manhood. He came to Idaho in 1926 and has been a resident of American Falls vicinity since, working as a mechanic. Mr. Miser served five years in the United States Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by one brother, George Miser of American Falls, and six sisters: Lorena Kennedy, Kimberly, Idaho; Helen Clark, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Edith Wells, Goodland, Kansas; Hallie Winfrey, Walsh, Colorado; Mary Winfrey and June Starkey, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents and sister Margaret and brother John, preceded him in death.
Funeral services have been tentatively set for 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church under the direction of Rev. Gilbert. Internment will be with military honors in the Falls View Cemetery with Davis Mortuary in charge of the funeral.

Victim, 42, 'Thrown' In Riding Drill At American Falls
June 1952, AMERICAN FALLS, IDA. -A spill from a horse during riding club drill cost the life of John Ellsworth Miser, 42, American Falls service station operator.
Mr. Miser was thrown against a post on the American Falls riding arena Monday at 8:10 p.m. He was taken to Schiltz Memorial Hospital, later Monday night to Pocatello and he died in a Pocatello hospital Tuesday at 4:45 a.m. Cerebral hemorrhage was the cause of death. Besides the head injury Mr. Miser suffered multiple fractures.
Members of the American Falls Damsite Riding Club had been drilling for the second annual Power County Rodeo to be held next weekend.
Mr. Miser was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Pawnee City, Neb., a son of Charles and Emma Edgerton Miser. The family moved to Burlington, Colo., where he attended high school. He married Neva Henderson Feb. 19, 1933, in Burlington. They made their home in Haxton, Colo., moved to Loveland, Colo., in 1935, and later to Aberdeen. They moved to American Falls in 1939. Mr. Miser opened a tire shop, later added a service station.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of Moose and the Damsite Riding Club.
Besides his widow, a son and two daughters survive, Dile, 14; Audrey, 17, and Virginia Miser, 16; two brothers, Albert Miser, Pocatello, and George Miser, American Falls; also six sisters, Mrs. June Starkey and Mrs. Mary Winfrey, Des Moines, Ia.; Mrs. Helen Clark, Coeur d'Alene; Mrs. Lorena Kennedy, Kimberly; Mrs. Edith Wells, Goodland Kan., and Mrs. Hallie Winfrey, Eldorado Springs, Mo.
JUNE
June Bernice Miser Baumbartner 1916-2003 is buried in Des Moines Iowa.
She had married Ole Edward Starkey 1910-1975 in Burlington on August 30, 1933.
MARY
Mary Elizabeth Conkling, 101, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 10 at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines with interment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mary was born November 9, 1913 in Kit Carson County, CO to Charles and Emma Miser. She attended one room grade school then graduated from Burlington, CO High School in 1931. She attended Colorado Teacher's College and took correspondence courses to enable her to become a certified teacher at a country school in Colorado, where she taught for seven years. She married James Winfrey in 1933 and together they had two daughters, Evelyn and Joyce. The family moved to Nevada, MO in 1937. Mary was active in the school system, serving as president of the PTA and other later offices. She was leader for a Brownie and a Girl Scout Troop and was also active teaching in her church. In 1948 the family moved to Des Moines and lived there the rest of her life. She studied to become a cosmetologist and worked for 21 years. Mary married Alvin Conkling in 1969. Mary was active with her daughters, stepsons, their spouses and children, and her friends. She will be missed by all.
Mary is survived by her daughter Joyce (Wayne) Brus, daughter Evelyn (John) Nelson; stepsons Alvin, Doug, and Craig Conkling; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-granchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; three brothers; and six sisters.

MISS NELLIE M. MISER
Miss Nellie M. Miser, 83, who made her home for the past eight years with her sister, Mrs. George C. Martin, 322 Eastern Heights Blvd., died at 11:05 a.m. yesterday in Rebel Nursing Home. She had been ill 11 months.
Miss Miser was born in Annapolis, Ohio, Nov. 30, 1879. She attended the First Church of Christ Scientist and was a member of the Elyria YWCA and the Plus 50 Club.
Besides her sister, she is survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Wainwright Funeral Home where Lyle W. Burrows will read the Christian Science service tomorrow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Brookdale Cemetery.
