Kit Carson County Pioneers:

Alexander Dile and Nellie Bell (Parmer) Henderson, 6 South 43 West

Alexander Henderson, born 1841 in Scotland died October 15, 1897 in Minersville and his wife, Janet "Jessie" Doctor born September 25, 1839 in Scotland and died October 29, 1894 in Minersville.
Alexander and Jessie Henderson were the parents of five children: David, Margaret, Jean, Alex and Pete. The first three were born in Scotland. Alex was born in New York City in 1870, the same year the Hendersons came west and Pete was born in Minersville. David married Minnie Linn; Margaret married Thomas Struthers; Jean married Thomas. Wilson, Alex married Ida Daughhette and Pete married Rettie Murray. Alexander Henderson died Oct.15, 1897. His wife, Jessie, died Oct. 29, 1894. Both buried in Zion Cemetery.



The Minersville Store - The store was on land donated by Alexander Henderson from his farm. It was a little southeast of his rock house. The first store was m a tent. Then a wooden structure for a store was built by George Demars. This-store-was-operated-by-Tim- O'Brien. Nobody could remember if the postoffice was in the buUduig or whether John Richardson distributed the maU from his house, across the road north of the store. After the death of Mr. Richardson, when Mrs. Alexander Henderson was serving as postmaster, she had the post office in her house.

In 1900 Cloud County, Kansas, David Henderson Aug 1863 Scotland, is widowed. farming. Alexander born July 1884, Simon P. July 1886, and Clarissa Jan 1890 were all born in Kansas.
One tree says "married August 12, 1907 to Nellie Fern Dietrich in Fairbury, Nebraska"

In 1910 Osborne County, Kansas, "Dell" A. Henderson is 24, born in Oklahoma, with Nellie B. 23 Kansas. Dela May 4 and Bessie G. 2 were born in Kansas. Alexander proved up two quarters in 2, 6 South, 43W in 1918. The 1919 history of Kansas says about Charles Parmer's children "Nellie, wife of A.D. Henderson, a farmer at Bonny, Colorado."

In 1920 Kit Carson County (on the same page as William Broadsword) Alexander is 38, Nellie 33, Leliah M. 13, Bessie G. 12, Nellie A. 7 - these three born in Kansas, and Neva M. 5, Colorado.
There's also a record of his registering in Kit Carson County, "Alex Dile Henderson" born August 5, 1881.
In 1920 Cloud County, Alexander 35, and Nellie 29 have Simon E. 11, Pauline C. 9, Oren C. 8, Ella M. 5, David M. 3, and Cora C. four months.
All the kids were born in Kansas. If true, Nellie might have stayed in Kansas while Alexander proved up his claim.
In 1925 Cloud County, A.D. and Nellie have "Swinon" E., 16, Pauline 15, Clayton O. 13, Ella May 12, "Dwviot" M. 8, and COra C. 5.

In 1930 Kit Carson County, Alexander D. is farming, 48, Nellie B. 43, with Neva M. 15 Kansas. Roy L. Milford 28, South Carolina and Nellie F. 18 born in Kansas are lodgers. In 1940 Cloud County, Alexander 55 and Nellie 50 have Charles 14 Kansas and Oral 8, Kansas.

Alexander 1881-1943, # 69597302, is buried in Burlington, with Nellie B. 1887-1931
His second wife Sarah Jane (Teel) (Barnhart) 1885-1972 and her first husband Charles F. Barnhart 1882-1930 are also buried there.
Neva Miser, age 18, married John E. Miser, 22 on February 19, 1933 in Burlington.
1961 "Mrs. Neva Miser, who has been a teacher in the American Falls school system for IS years, was feted at a surprise party by pupils in her third grade class Friday. Pupils bade farewell to Mrs. Miser, who will be married in March to Hank Bahen, Brigham City real estate dealer. The couple will reside in Brigham City. A resident of American Falls for 21 years, Mrs. Miser has taught first, second and third grades here. Party decorations and refreshments were provided by room mothers, Mrs. Frances Jeilries and Mrs. Arthur Adolf. A valentine motif was used, with red hearts trimmed with gold arrows and gold names, surrounded by red cupids, and topped with a paper parasol. Mrs. Miser was presented a gift from her students and from the room mothers"


Gooding, Idaho

HALTOM CITY - Fay Milford, 88, who worked in photo sales, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at home.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Fay Milford played the piano and was very active at Glenview Bible Chapel. She will be missed by many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Milford, and a daughter, Mary Hopper.
Survivors: Son, Robert Milford and wife, Linda, of Haltom City; daughter, Zella Little and husband, Clyde, of Houston; grandsons, David Little, Mark Little and James Roy Milford; granddaughters, Stacy Lopez, Sharon Ferrell and Janice Snook; and four great-grandsons.

Alexander 1884-1951 and Nellie Fern 1890-1962 are buried in Concordia, Kansas, # 37814340.

ELLA

Ella M. Christenson, 92, Beloit, Kansas , formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006.
Mrs. Christenson was born Ella M. Henderson on Aug. 20, 1914, in Minersville, Republic County, to Alexander and Nellie (Dietrich) Henderson. She was a homemaker and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She and her husband operated the Christenson Implement Co. in Jamestown and farmed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester "Johnny," in 1998; a son, David, in 2004; two sisters, Pauline Dudney and Cora Moye; and three brothers, Oren, Simon and David Henderson.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Major and husband Steve of Denver; two brothers, Charles Henderson and wife Pearl of San Diego and Oral Henderson and wife Marian of Cherokee Village, Ark.; a grandchild, Kelli Jean Christenson of San Antonio; a daughter-in-law, Melanie Christenson of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
NELLIE In 1940 Fort Worth, Texas, R.L. Milford is a rubber tire vulcanizer, 39, South Carolina and Nellie have Zella Fay 8, born in Colorado, Mary Lou 3 Alabana, and Robert Roy newborn Texas.
They were in Alabama in 1935.

NEVA
Neva, per # 74257956, married John Ellsworth Miser 1910-1952 in Burlington February 19, 1933, then Harry Shaw Bahen 1909-1978 in Idaho in 1961, then WSayne Elmer Bretz 1922-1995 in Elko, Nevada, in 1987, and is buried iN American Falls Idaho.
Neva is buried in American Falls.

AMERICAN FALLS, IDA. (Special)--
A spill from a horse during riding club drill cost the life of John Ellsworth Miser, 42, American Falls service station operator. Mr. Miser was thrown against a post on the American Falls riding arena Monday at 8:10 p.m. He was taken to Schiltz Memorial Hospital, later Monday night to Pocatello and he died in a Pocatello hospital Tuesday at 4:45 a.m. Cerebral hemorrhage was the cause of death. Besides the head injury Mr. Miser suffered multiple fractures.
Members of the American Falls Damsite Riding Club had been drilling for the second annual Power County Rodeo to be held next weekend.
Mr. Miser was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Pawnee City, Neb., a son of Charles and Emma Edgerton Miser. The family moved to Burlington, Colo., where he attended high school. He married Neva Henderson Feb. 19, 1933, in Burlington. They made their home in Haxton, Colo., moved to Loveland, Colo., in 1935, and later to Aberdeen. They moved to American Falls in 1939. Mr. Miser opened a tire shop, later added a service station.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of Moose and the Damsite Riding Club. Survivors List Besides his widow, a son and two daughters survive, Dile, 14; Audrey, 17, and Virginia Miser, 16; two brothers, Albert Miser, Pocatello, and George Miser, American Falls; also six sisters, Mrs. June Starkey and Mrs. Mary Winfrey, Des Moines, Ia.; Mrs. Helen Clark, Coeur d'Alene; Mrs. Lorena Kennedy, Kimberly; Mrs. Edith Wells, Goodland Kan., and Mrs. Hallie Winfrey, Eldorado Springs, Mo.

Alexander Struthers, born Dec 11, 1885 and David Henderson Struthers January 8, 1892 both have records of Kit Carson County draft cards.

Viola Ruth Struthers, daughter of Alexander Henderson Struthers and Maude Merle (Williams ) Struthers, was born 1920 at Stratton, died 1923, buried in Stratton # 33278137.
Louie Abraham Struthers, 1916-1923, Floyd Delmar 1914-1923 and Aaron Fred 1912 -1923 also died from diptheria, and are also buried in Stratton.
Alexander's parents were Thomas Frederick Struthers 1863-1928 and Margaret (Henderson ) Struthers 1864-1935. Margaret's parents were Alexander Henderson 1841-1897 and Janet Powrie (Doctor) Henderson 1839-1894, so Alexander Struthers and Alexander Henderson were cousins.
Alexander Struthers claimed land in 11S 47W in 1913, and David south of him in 1916.

David Struthers of Stratton married Oneta V. Felch of Stratton, in Burlington October 10, 1916.
August 1, 1932 Santa Ana California "At her residence. 1007 West Chestnut avenue, July 30, 1932. Mrs. Agnes H. Struthers. aged 29 years. She is survived by her husband, David H. Struthers and 3 small children. Also her mother, Mrs. Nellie Skog of Kit Carson, Colorado; 3 brothers, Harry and Harold Skog of Colorado, and Arthur Skog, of Kansas. Four sisters. Mrs. Hilda Derby, Mrs. Esther Hanson, Miss Ida Skog and Miss Mamie Skog, all of Colorado. The Winbigler Funeral home Is forwarding the body to Kit Carson, Colorado, where services will be held and Interment made."
Agnes is buried in the Kit Carson cemetery, Cheyenne Wells # 32603770.

August SCHAEPERKOETTER and his 1st. wife Carrie COOPER or their son (John) Henry SCHAEPERKOETTER and his wife Olive Mae COX. Both family groups are listed as having filed for homesteads in Kit Carson Co. in 1913 and 1916. I assume August passed away by 1916 and Carrie died abt. 1890. August remarried to a Christina STRUTHERS. Henry died abt Sept. 1944
In 1910 Kit Carson County, Christina - second marriage - born in Scotland, age 55, and August Schaeperkoetter 58 German, are farming, with Henry 20, born in Kansas.
"He went by the name August Schaeperkotter. After his first wife Carrie (Cooper) died, he married Christina Struthers...the sister of James Purdie Struthers who married August's daughter Elizabeth. Together, August and Christina adopted boys and two girls at home. August hauled barrels for a living, loading and unloading them. "
One tree said she married Frederick H. Standau in 1919 in Burlington.
