Foulk" is mentioned as visiting - Rushville items.The Argus Observer Ontario, Oregon Thursday, February 16, 1922 VETERAN OF EARLY INDIAN WARS IN MIDDLE WEST DIES At the home of his daughter, Mrs. Neva Casidy of this city on February 2, Henry S. Foulk died. Funeral services were held from the Congregational church Friday February 3, Rev. D. J. Gillanders preaching the sermon, and interment was made in the Ontario cemetery. Mr. Foulk was 73 years, seven months and 14 days old when he died and he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Foulk, his daughter, Mrs. Casiday and one son, Chester Foulk of Portland, and seven grand children and three great grand children. The deceased was a native of Ohio having been born in Warren county, June 19, 1848. At five years of age he went with his parents to Iowa where he grew to manhood, and where, when he was 21 he enlisted in the U.S. Army for service in the Indian wars of that day. He was wounded in action and following his recovery received an honorable discharge from the service. On June 10th, 1870 he married Miss Anna Bumgarner, who with two of the three children born to this union survives him. For a number of years the deceased has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Casiday here in Ontario. The Ontario Argus Ontario, Oregon Thursday, May 16, 1929 Mrs. Anna Foulk who was buried here on Monday of last week, was past 78 years old at the time of her death, having been ill only a short time, according to the Gazette Times of Corvallis, where she died in the home of her only daughter, Mrs. T. F. Casiday, in the Herkart apartments. She came to Oregon in 1905, having resided in this section for years, moving to Corvallis only a few years ago. Mrs. Foulk was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Baumgarner, and was born in Jones county, Iowa, on September 10, 1850. In 1866 she was married to Henry S. Foulk who died here in Ontario in 1921. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Casiday, by her son, Chester A. Foulk of Portland, and by one sister, two brothers and by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. Linna Struthers, died in Brogan about 10 years ago. ------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Linna Alice Struthers was born May 12, 1871 at Jones County, Iowa; and died September 28, 1918 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. F. Casiday, Ontario, Oregon - Age 47 years, 4 months, 11 days. November 16, 1892 she was united in marriage to F. E. Struthers at Audubon County, Iowa. During the year 1897 the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado; and in 1904 they came to Malheur County, and have made their home at Jamieson and Brogan ever since. The deceased united with the Christian church during her residence in Colorado. She has always been active ly engaged in Sunday School and church work, and although often in poor health was ever ready to help along any good work to the limit of her ability. In her home she was a true wife and mother, ministering cheerfully to the comforts of those about her. Those who mourn her going are the husband, Frank E. Struthers, the five children, Mrs. Gladys M. Hord, Ina E. Lloyd 0., Norma G., and Lillian D. Struthers; one sister, Mrs. Neva Casiday and one brother, Chester Foulk with tho U. S. Army in Cali fornia, and the father and mother Mrs. and Mrs. H. S. Foulk who reside near Portland, Oregon. Tho funeral services were held at Jamieson, Oregon, Thursday after noon, oepiemoer zu. iicv W. J. Luscombe being in charge, and the interment was in tho Jamieson cemetery. |
