Ira Bigler,6 South 43 West


JACOB BIGLER came to Kansas in February, 1871, and after a short stay in Osage County, located on a farm in Butler County. Cultivated his farm a few years, then rented it and did mason work in Butler, Chase and Greenwood Counties until 1879, then returned to his farm, and in the spring of 1882 moved to Toronto, where he now lives. He was born in York County, Penn., October 10, 1846, son of Abraham and Sarah Ann Bigler. Lived in his native county until he came to Kansas in 1871. He was married in El Dorado, Butler County, October 21, 1879, to Anna E. Luke, daughter of David D. and Mary J. Luke. She is a native of Missouri, was educated at Keosauqua, Iowa, and taught one term in the same school when only fifteen years of age. She now carries on a millinery store in Toronto. Their only child, Ira Stanford Bigler, was born August 6, 1880.

In 1909 Ira S. Bigler, of Hale, Colorado, was a witness for the land claim of James W. Winfrey for land in 5 1/2 Sounth 43 W, along with J. L. Cunningham, Henry Armitage, and George Broadsword of Morris, Colorado.
In 1910 Yuma County, Ira S. 28, born in Kansas, with Addie 24, Kansas, have Olive L. 7 Oklahoma, Noel S. 5 Oklahoma, and Leio H. 3 Colorado.
1910 Armel items "Messers Bigler and Lutz of Denver recently spent a few days at C. Morris' the guests of Miss Bigler."
Ira proved up 140 acres in 35, 5 1/2 South 43W in 1910. The odd amount and description reflects the transfer of a strip of land from Yuma County to Kit Carson County.
In 1920 Baca County, Colorado, farming, Ira and Addie have Olive 17, Noel 14, Leo 11, and Helen 7.
In 1930 El Paso County, Colorado, farming, "Harry" is 49, Addie 45, with Helen 17.
Ira Stanford Bigler 1880-1944 is buried in Canon City, per # 11671155, with Minie Adeline (Coleman) Bigler 1885-19963 # 11671136.

"Jacob Bigler and his father.Jacob was my husbands grandfather, he is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, Ok.,
He had three children, Ira, died in Canon City, Co., his wife was Helen-----.Will check what records I have.
The other son was Jacob Frank, my father-in-law, he died in 1945, Stillwater, buried by Jacob and wife Anna,
the other a dau. was Mary, don't have her death in front of me, but she died in Stillwater.
She gave me some of the history. Also have 2 diaries of Jacob Bigler when he was in Pa.
Some of Uncle Ira's family is still around Canon City, Co.Ira lived there most of the time after he was married.They were all three born in Ka., came with parents to Ok., 1897, Payne Co., Ok.Hope this helps some.Nina Bigler "

Leon A. Irwin, age 68, died in Kitsap County Washington Nov 17, 1996.

"Helen May (Bigler)Goltl, 81, of Canon City died July 6, 1994. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Holt Family Chapel of the Garden in Canon City, with the Rev. Bob Farrell officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City. Mrs. Goltl was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Yuma County to Ira S. Bigler and Minnie Adeline Coleman. She was married Nov. 10, 1931, to Henry Joseph Goltl, who is deceased. She is survived by a son, Darrel L. of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Lynette W. Mondy of Canon City; a sister, Hazel L. Lucero of Canon City; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Mrs. Goltl and her husband had lived in eastern Colorado and Herndon, Kan., and for 10 years in the Ellicott area before moving to Colorado Springs. They retired to Canon City in 1971, where she was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. " # 66282588
