The Garfield County State Bank in Grand Valley.
The first and only
bank in Grand Valley was erected around 1908 or 1910 and was organized
by the following enterprising men:
F.W. Poppell, M.H. Streit, Mr.
Ellion, Ed. T. Taylor, James Brennan, Mr. Scoggins, C.A. Swanson, John
D. Evans, Ray Havemeyer, James Wheeler, Jim Wallace, Harry and Alex
Aplin of Grand Valley and Mr. Clarkson of Rifle.
In the 1920's Mr.
A.T. Cooley purchased the bank and stock and Mr. Judd Sipprelle
continued as cashier, until 1937 when economic conditions did not
warrant continuing.
During the oil shale boom it became a Saloon, and
then later, a restaurant.
Today the building still stands and is a
real estate office.

Boots Bumgardner writes:
I don’t know what year this was. I
think James Wheeler is the older man standing behind the wheel. I also
think the man with the big tummy was the blacksmith “Pop” Harry Hoag in
Parachute CO. And yes, I remember him.
The Grand Valley Drugstore was at the corner of 1st Street and Parachute Avenue in downtown Grand Valley/Parachute, Co. owned by Mr. and Mrs Coulter who were wonderful people
