Art and Millie Dague
Art (Arthur) and Millie (Mildred) Dague were
Married February 1, 1946 in Rifle. Millie was born June
14, 1926 and Art was born October 8, 1922. Art passed away
November 7, 1993 and Millie passed away September 28, 2015.
They are buried at Rose Hill. Art was born in Scott City,
Kansas, was raised in Hotchkiss, and graduated high school
there in 1940. He served in the Air Force in WW2, then
resided in Rifle the rest of his life. He was a truck
driver for Swallow Oil for 30 years. He was a Mason for 20
years and also a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He was
fire chief in 1965, that photo is copied from Elaine
Langstaff book on the VFD. Millie and Art raised three
children, Pat, Shari, and Vicki. Found a clipping that
he became a pilot and had his solo flight in Rifle November
of 1946. Another clip says he was a rodeo clown in 1957.
His obituary says he enjoyed children, motorcycles,
traveling, sports, flowers, woodworking, roller coasters,
and loved life. There is a photo here of Art in the
Whiskers Club 1959, top row third from right. And a photo of
the Art Dague Pool in 1969 at its completion. It was the
Metro Pool then. Art was around many high school
activities and frequently drove the football and basketball
teams to away games. In the summer he sometimes drove the
swim bus to Glenwood Springs.
