William H. Trimble (1844-1900)
Evaline "Eva" Trimble (1850-1930)
Lot OSC / Plot 654 Highland Cemetery New Castle, Garfield County,
Colorado
OSC stands for Old Soldiers Circle and burial here was
limited to military service members and their relatives. Although I have
found no information regarding William's military service the burial
site may indicate that he served during the civil war.
William was
born Mar. 29, 1844 in Saint Just, Cornwall, England. He died Sep. 11,
1900 in New Castle, at the age of 56, due to pneumonia. He and wife Eva
were married in 1877. I have been unable to find any information that
indicated the couple had any children. In the 1880 Census it noted that
William and Eva lived in Lucas, Iowa and William's occupation was listed
as a saloon keeper. The couple moved to New Castle in 1888, the year of
the Town's incorporation.
Evaline "Eva" (Worthington) Trimble was
born on Mar. 9, 1850 in Indiana. She died Apr. 21, 1930. Her parents
were William and Matilda Worthington. Eva would become the first woman
to serve on New Castle's Town Council, elected in 1902 and serving until
1904.
Upon arriving in New Castle, Eva and William wasted little
time becoming involved in the community when they constructed their
two-story brick building at the corner of 3rd Street (Now Ritter Plaza)
and Main Street in approximately 1890. The building provided commercial
business space on the 1st floor and an opera house on the 2nd floor
where music events, theatre and even boxing exhibitions were held. The
second floor also hosted many social events commonly mentioned in the
local newspaper, it also served as the meeting place for New Castle's
Town Council prior to the construction of a town hall.
The Trimbles
would add on to the west side of the building in 1893 providing
additional commercial space on the first floor and apartments on the
second floor.
As influential as the Trimbles were in the early
development of the town I have been unable to find photos of them

Trimble. The main portion of the building (left side) was constructed in
approximately 1890. The addition (right side) was constructed in 1893
