Linnie, born in
Junction City, KS, spent her early years as a child living in Point
Arena, CA and Meeker, CO, before, at the age of 10, her family
homesteaded on Grass Mesa, south of Rifle, CO. Her parents also acquired
a property on Elk Creek, north of New Castle, and she spent the rest of
her childhood residing at the two locations. Her mother, Laura, was a
school teacher in Grand Valley (Parachute) and New Castle and it is
believed she gained her education in these schools.
After high
school Linnie attended and graduated from the Musical College of
Chicago. While attending college there, she met and later married, music
professor, Karl Reckzeh, Linnie and Karl had three children together but
in later years would be divorced. After her divorce Linnie returned to
New Castle in the early 1940's to live with her parents on the Elk Creek
property. Thanks to Carol Herwick Crawford McManus for the information
and wonderful photos.
