
A brief bio for George and Mona Peltier
George Joseph Peltier was
born in Meeker October 6, 1901 the son of Joseph Eugene and Ida May
Henry Peltier.
Per his obituary, George was educated in Rio Blanco
County Schools first attending the rural school on Big Beaver Creek,
later the family moved into Meeker where he continued his education in
the Meeker schools.
There is a newspaper clip from 1908 about Meeker
City Schools saying George was never tardy that reporting period.
He
married Mona M Lacy on July 19, 1926 at Rifle. They had two sons, Harlan
and George, and two daughters Arleta and Jean.
Mona was born October
4, 1906 in Ouray. Neither her obituary or Ancestry mention her parents.
She attended school in several western slope towns.
They first made
their home in Meeker where he worked for ranchers.
Later he worked
for the Harp's Stage about 10 years. He then worked for the Rio Blanco
County Road Department. There is a newspaper clip that says he ran for
County Commissioner in his district in 1932.
They moved to Rifle in
1942 where he worked for the United States Vanadium Company for two
years.
In 1944 he went to work for the Re-2 School District and
worked 25 years retiring in 1969 at age 68. He worked as both custodian
and bus driver. He was custodian at both the high school and the junior
high.
He made two school bus runs every morning and every evening for
many years. The author, me, rode his bus from 1956 to 1967. He had a
special day once each year where he took his bus to the Rifle A&W and
treated everyone.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church. Mona was a
member of the Church of Christ. She was also a long time member of the
Rifle Creek Extension Club.
He passed away October 11, 1972 and his
service was October 14 at the Methodist Church.
Mona passed away
December 6, 1985. They are both buried at Rose Hill.— with Preston
Peterson and Noah Brooks Peterson.

Funeral services for George Joseph
Peltier were held Saturday afternoon, October 14, at two o'clock at the
United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Rifle. Reverend Roger Green
officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Sowder Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peltier was born on October
6, 1901, at Meeker, the son of Joseph Eugene and Ida May Henry Peltier.
He was educated in Rio Blanco County schools, first attending the rural
school on Big Beaver Creek. Later the family moved to Meeker, where he
continued his education.
He married Mona Lacy Nissen on July 19,
1926, in Rifle. They lived in the Meeker area, where Mr. Peltier worked
for ranchers, Harp's stage for about 10 years, and the Rio Blanco County
Road Department. In 1942, they moved to Rifle, where he was employed by
the United States Vanadium Company for two years and later worked for
RE-2 School District for 25 years before retiring in 1969.
He was a
member of the Episcopalian Church.
Mr. Peltier was preceded in death
by a brother, Frankie.

Mona M. Peltier
Oct. 4, 1906 — Dec. 6, 1985
Services for Mona M. Peltier will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the
Sowder Funeral Home in Rifle, officiated by Luther L. Lewis. She passed
away Friday at the E. Dene Moore Memorial Home after a brief illness.
She was 79.
A homemaker and longtime resident of Rifle, Mona was born
in Ouray and attended school in various Western Slope communities. She
married George Joseph Peltier on July 19, 1926. They lived in Meeker
before returning to Rifle in 1942. George passed away in 1972.
Mona
was a member of the Church of Christ and the Rifle Creek Extension Club.
She is survived by her children—Arleta Robinson (Denver), Jean Loesch
(Rifle), Harlan K. (Grand Junction), and George L. (Arvada)—along with
15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Burial will take place
at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle. Memorial contributions can be made to
the Activities Fund at the E. Dene Moore Memorial Home, Box 912, or
through the Sowder Funeral Home, Rifle, CO 81650
