This is my Mother, Laura Tatham Lyke on her
way to Colorado from Oklahoma, Circa 1920.
She became the second
wife of Jay Albert Lyke after she took care of his first wife Lydia. We
lived on West Elk creek. The last ranch before the flattops.

Graveside services for
Laura E. Lyke of Rifle, were held July 12, 1993 at Divide Creek Cemetery
south of Silt. Reverend Dene Johnson pastor of First Christian Church in
Rifle officiated.
She passed away at Hilltop Rehabilitation Center in
Grand Junction on July 7. She was 86.
She was born July 14, 1904, the
daughter of Samuel D. and Grace M. (Exley) Tatham in Weir Kansas. She
spent her childhood in Kansa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
She was married
to Jay A. Lyke on August 27, 1928 at Grand Junction. She was a previous
resident of New Castle and Raven. Mrs. Lyke lived in the area since
1928.
She was a member of Rebekah organization. She enjoyed
crocheting and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
who passed away February 16, 1937; her parents; a son Wayne; three
stepsons; a stepdaughter; and a sister, Mattie Kirby.
Survivors
include two sons, Harold Lyke of Grand Junction and Robert Lyke of
Glenwood Springs; two brothers, Vail Tatham of La Junta, and Dee Tatham;
five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Sowder Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.
