Daughter of Louis and Millie
Hoffmeister, she was born August 1896.
Her older sister Wilma was
born in 1894. Sister Florence was born 1898, brother Carleton in 1903,
sister Grace in 1907, and brother Louis in 1913. Louis passed away
young, in 1926.
Her father married Lillie Miller October 5, 1893 in
Central City. His obituary says he moved to Rifle December 1901. Other
news accounts say they moved from Glenwood Springs.
Louise graduated
from Rifle Union High sometime berween 1912 and 1914. Records show her 2
year younger sister Florence graduated in 1916.
Louise attended
Normal School in Gunnison graduating in 1919 and with her sister
Florence who graduated at the same time.
Prior to that, Louise and
her best friend Laurie Walker spent a year teaching at the Sunlight
School outside Glenwood.
Louise and John Hocker had been best friends
and were engaged. But John went to War in 1917 and they never married.
Instead in 1924 Louise married James R. Goodner also a veteran. James
was 26 and Louise was 28. Records suggest the Goodners were from
Glenwood.
John Hocker married Elsie Estelle Ford in 1925. We have the
Rifle Hocker Ford family from that. This collection of photos of Louise
was saved by John.
News records show Louise taught Second Grade in
the Rifle Grade School for the year 1919. Would be immediately after
graduating from Gunnison.
Cemetery records show both Louise and James
Goodner are buried at Ft. Collins. His photo shows a WW1 style uniform.
She passed away in 1981, he passed away in 1984.
About all the
historical records show.
