LAWRENCE ALLEC OBITUARY
Lawrence Paul Allec
February 11, 1932 - April 6, 2009 Lawrence Paul Allec of Clifton, CO,
passed away April 6, 2009 at Mesa Manor Care Center in Grand Junction
where he resided since March 7, 2009 from complications associated with
his stroke from six years ago.
Lawrence was 77 years old. Lawrence
"Larry" Allec was born February 11, 1932 in Brea, CA to Paul and Notra
Belle (Slayton) Allec. In 1940, Larry's family moved to Anaheim, CA.
As a senior in high school, he met his future wife Beverly Curtis and
they both graduated from Anaheim High School in 1950. Larry and Bev
married March 6, 1952, from this marriage came three children.
Larry
grew up with ranching. He and his family owned orange grove acreage and
Larry raised sheep and horses. After high school, still managing the
family ranch, Larry worked as a deputy for the Orange County Sheriff's
Department.
Larry was hired on with the Tustin Police Department in
1954 and obtained the rank of sergeant and was acting Chief of Police in
the Chief's absence.
Larry made a career change and moved his family
to Rifle, CO in 1963 where he partnered with the CV Bar Guest Ranch,
then moved to New Castle, CO as foreman of the Deter Charolais Ranch.
In 1968 Larry accepted the position of Rifle's Chief of Police and
continued in that position until his retirement in 1990 working for the
City of Rifle for 22 and one half years.
Prior to his stroke, Larry
enjoyed family and friends, traveling, fishing and hunting. After his
stroke, he enjoyed family and friends, sports and westerns on TV, his
backyard and his Boston Terrier, Lucky.
Larry was active in high
school with the Future Farmers of America and he was a Volunteer on the
Tustin, California Fire Department. In Rifle, he was a member of the
Loyal Order of the Moose, the National Chief of Police Association,
Rifle Snowmobile Rescue Team and Club, Garfield County Search and
Rescue, an NRA certified firearms instructor who also taught hunter
safety, and Larry helped start the Rifle Golden Bullet and Rifle-Pistol
Club.
Larry is survived by his loving and caring wife, Beverly; his
daughters, Judy Speaker of Grand Junction and Elaine (Raymond) Langstaff
of Rifle; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and his nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Allec;
son-in-law, Gary Speaker; his parents; brother, Norman and sister, Wanda
Lee. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10 at
the Rifle Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately at Rose Hill
Cemetery in Rifle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to
a charity of your choice.
