Wife - Rosella Larrigan
Children - Thomas B. & Clara Larrigan
Thomas was on of 49 miners killed in the Vulcan Coal Mine explosion at
New Castle on February 18, 1896. At the rime is was the deadliest mine
accident in Colorado history.
The Mine Report provided the following
information.
Thomas Larrigan: Age 30 / Married, 2 children, wife is
preganant / Nationality - Scotch / Occupation - Fire Boss / Body
recovered March 3, 1896.
Thomas is interred next to his 4-month old
daughter, Clara Larrigan, who passed approximately February 10, 1896, or
8 days prior to Thomas's death. On February 15, 1896, 3 days prior to
his death, the New Castle News had the following news story in their
paper.
"Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Larrigan are mourning the death of their
little babe, who died Wednesday Morning, after and illness of but a few
hours."
The headstone was placed in 2004 by family members that
attended the dedication of the Miners Memorial at Burning Mountain Park.
There were approximately 20 descendants of Mr. Larrigan in attendance
from several states around the country.
