John Herbert Brosius is another early Rifle resident who served in
the WW1 in Europe.
This is a little of his information.
Herbert
was born June 29, 1892 in Aspen. References call him John or Herbert and
frequently John Herbert. (Per a comment he went by his middle name
Herbert).
He married Clara Margaret George June 15, 1920 in Rifle.
(Per a comment she went by her middle name Margaret).
They had three
children during their marriage, George, Mary, and Willard (aka Will).
George (aka Scotty) went missing in the Pacific in 1945.
Margaret was
born February 15, 1894 in Rifle, and grew up there.
Herbert listed
farmer as his occupation on his WW1 draft Registration. In 1900 his
census address was Carbondale. In 1910 it was Austin. In June 1919, he
was.helping Claude and Jasper George with cattle up north on Rifle
Creek.
Herbert was drafted in 1917. He arrived in France in July 1918
served as a corporal. He then arrived back in the US May 1919.
Margaret passed away November 7, 1949 in Denver.
March 2, 1952,
Herbert married Elsie Bessie Belle Sherman in Rifle.
Herbert passed
away January 7, 1974 in Grand Junction. He and Margaret are buried at
Rose Hill.
