2 story stucco building at 144 East 1st Street, Parachute, Co.
Benjamin Hamilton Anderson was born on December 9th, 1883 in Cornwith,
Iowa. He came to Grand Valley and married Emma Pearl Bailey on March
9th, 1911. He was a long time barber in Grand Valley, Colorado. He died
on December 3rd, 1959 at the Rifle Community Hospital and is buried at
the Russey-Hurlburt cemetery in Parachute, Co. Pearl died in June of
1944 in Grand Valley and is also buried at the Russey-Hurlburt cemetery.
Interestingly, the back of a 1996 photo of the 2 story stucco building
at 144 East 1st Street, Parachute, Co, found in the Grand Valley
Historical Society archives has the following caption:
"Originally:
This building was the Henry Alber Sr. Grocery Store, Ben Anderson Barber
Shop & Mrs. Travis Miller's Cafe.
Later: The grocery store became
Harry Underwood's Pool Hall.
The restaurant was owned by the Paul
Pecks (sp?)- The Neva Jones & Katherine Herwicks-The Benett/Gardners &
The Benson girls.
Now (1996) the grocery portion has been removed &
the rest remodeled." 10/96.
Today the building is home to Tisa and
Waylon's "The Healthy Mantra", which provides massage services in a spa
setting.
