emigrated to the U.S. in 1868, settling in Jasper County, Iowa. In 1879
he moved to Leadville, CO and in 1886 he moved to Garfield County and
homesteaded a parcel of land on Garfield Creek. During his years on
Garfield Creek he farmed the land and would be one of the earliest
school board members for the school district formed for the Garfield and
Alkali Creek children. In 1900 his younger brother Peter and sister
Annie would emigrate to the U.S. and join him at his home on Garfield
Creek. In 1911, Andrew made his home available to his niece Margaret
Simpson, her husband John and their children Jack, Fred and Janey
(Simpson) Rippy. Andrew along with his sister Annie moved to Glenwood on
Spring Street near the Hotel Colorado. Andrew became a well known
business man in Glenwood associated with the local banks there. He later
became listed in the book, "Progressive Men of Western Colorado"
published in 1905 by Bowen. Andrew was never married as was his sister
Annie, the two of them lived together until Andrew's passing in 1920.
Andrew's homestead still remains on Garfield Creek, although the
original home was repalced many years ago the barns remain.
