Yelventon was born and raised in Howard
County, Missouri. He served in the Civil War under Sterling Price, was
captured and imprisoned (and survived!) in the Union Prison in Alton,
Illinois. He married Mary Elizabeth Kirby in Howard County and all 5 of
their sons were born there.
The whole family migrated to El Paso County
in about 1890. They ranched near Falcon. Mary Elizabeth died in 1901 and
is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Yelventon returned
to Missouri and then came back to Colorado in a few years. He married
Josephine about 1907. After the incident, he left Colorado and lived
with his sons in Oklahoma and eventually went back to Missouri where he
died in 1923.
His oldest son, William Henry was my maternal grandfather.
