| JARRE, C.A. | February 29, 1888 We understand that Mr. C.A. Jarre, living west of Sedalia is confined to his bed with a severe spell of sickness and that he is not expected to live. His trouble from the report, is the swelling of a blood vessel in the region of the heart. The physicians look for the bursting of this at any moment. If it does death will immediately come. This trouble has been affecting Mr. Jarre for several months and at one time he was thought to be wholly out of danger. His 12 year old daughter, who had an attack of sciatic rheumatism but a short time ago, has nearly recovered. (BURIED AT BEAR CANYON CEMETERY, DEATH DATE AS 1888) |

Born Mar. 5, 1934, in Detroit, he was the son of Carl and Irene (Marihugh) Johnson. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He and Anna Jean Phipp were married June 14, 1958, in Detroit. Mr. Johnson worked in sales. He was a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 3947, Castle Rock, and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing and listening to music. He is survived by his wife of Franktown; sister Shirley Lacey of South Carolina; brother Charles Johnson of Santa Domingo; mother-in-law Anna Rose Philipp of Michigan; sister in law Nancy Veronica; and numerous nieces and nephews. | KATZKE, CLARENCE G. | Denver Post. Jan. 4, 2004 Clarence, 86 of Lone Tree, passed away Dec. 29, 2004. Born Dec. 23, 1917 in Chicago, he served his country as a First Sgt. In the U.S. Army during WWII. In 1948, he co-founded Katzke Bros. Paper Co. in Denver, which became Katzke Paper Co. He married Gaharta9Gay) Marburger in 1950, and they lived in the Littleton area until 1984. Re retired and they moved to Corrales, New Mexico. His wife passed away in 1990 and in 1993 he returned to the Littleton area. He was a member of the Littleton Elks Lodge #1650 for over 40 years. The memory of his love and generosity lives on in his son Greg(C.J.) Katzke, dau. Mary (Randy) Holm, Rebecca Decker, Erik Swanson, Danielle Lockwood, other relatives and friends. | LAMBERT, FRANK | Douglas County News September 16, 1965 FRANK LAMBERT Frank Lambert was born September 20, 1902 at Cherry, Colorado, and passed away in Denver, September 4, 1965, at the age of sixty-two years, eleven months and sixteen days. He was the eighth of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lambert. He was united in marriage to Edna Mae Crosswhite and to this union four children were born: Charles Joseph, Brighton, Colorado; Richard Donald of Castle Rock, Colorado; Gladys Mae Thornton of Littleton, Colorado; and Harold Frank of Denver, Colorado, all of whom survive. Except for short intervals, Frank spent his life in the Cherry community, where he and his family spent a very happy and useful life, and were active in community activities. He was affiliated with the Douglas Lodge No. 153 A.F. and A.M. and Martha Chapter No. 135-O.E.S. He was laid to rest in the Spring Valley Cemetery. He was a most devoted husband and father, as well as a loyal brother. He will be greatly mourned for and missed by a devoted family, relatives and many friends. |

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Monday at the Fort Logan National Cemetery. Warren Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. Lambert, a former mayor of Wellington (1967-1982) worked for the State Highway Department for 24 years. He was born March 5, 1889, and married Mrs. Lucy J. Lambert May 10, 1924 in Brighton. Lambert was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post 176. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Oltmans of La Habra, California, Two sisters, Miss Lucy Lambert of Castle Rock, Colo. and Mrs. Iva Williams of Larkspur, Colo.; a brother, Vern Lambert, also of Castle Rock; and three grandchildren. |

| LAMBERT, JOSEPH | March 2, 1887 Death of Joseph Lambert, From Denver News After a prolonged illness of some four months, another Colorado pioneer and resident of Denver quietly passed away at high noon Sunday. His illness gave warning of its fatal nature from its first inception, and the long hours endured by him of patient watching for the note of its ending gave constant evidence of his unfaltering faith, that death was but a birth to a most glorious and unending life - an eternity of extended usefulness and joy. "His sun went down while it was yet day; It went not down behind a cloud, But melted into the pure light of Heaven." Mr. Lambert leaves a wife, who, with his only son, have been his tireless watchers, ministering to his every want - for his illness has confined him to a chair - to recline was impossible. He was a native of the state of Maine, a Quaker by birth - a disciple of William Penn. He was a man of iron will and determination, of great force of character, exalted sense of right, a man of sterling integrity, unflinching in the discharge of every trust and duty from which no influence could swerve him. So long as he conceived it to be right, he was as immovable as rock. The funeral services were held under the direction of Denver Lodge No. 6, A.F. and A.M. Commandery No. l Knights Templar, acting as an escort, from his late residence No. 1254 State street, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. |

| LAMBERT, LUCY | Castle Rock Journal April 28, 1977 Lucy Lambert Funeral services were held Friday, April 22, at Andrews Funeral Home for Lucy Lambert of Castle Rock. Rev. Robert Link officiated. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery. Miss Lambert, 82, died Wednesday, April 20, 1977, at Swedish Hospital in Englewood. She was born March 20, 1895, on the family ranch at Cherry in Douglas County, to Joseph Lambert and the former Olive Ingalls. She was educated in Douglas County schools and attended Greeley Teachers College. She taught school for 30 years in Colorado, one year in Wyoming and one year in South Dakota. She retired from teaching in 1957. She also worked at the Rossmeish Dry-Goods Store in Castle Rock. Miss Lambert had lived in Castle Rock since 1930. She was a member of the Methodist Church and of Martha Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by one brother, Vernie Lambert of Castle Rock, and one sister, Iva Williams of Larkspur, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Roy and Frank, and by three sisters, Ida Lambert, Ora Hill and Eda Metz. |

| LANSDEN, JAMES RUSSELL | June 28, 1882 Frightful Accident in Garber Canon About 9 o'clock a.m. on Wednesday, June 28th, Mr. James Russell Lansden left E. Bowen's mill, in Garber canon, with a mule team and a load of over 1000 feet of lumber. Coming down the steep pitch a quarter of a mile from the mill, his brake block slipped out of its socket, running the wagon onto his spike team of three mules, and mules, lumber and driver went headlong down from the grade to the gulch on the right, breaking the tongue and reach of the wagon. Mr. Lansden had his foot in the brake rope and being unable to free himself he was thrown under the load and was so badly injured that he died at 9 p.m. the same day, and was buried Thursday at Bear Canon church yard. He had four ribs on the left side broken and was internally mashed almost in a jelly. He was, however, conscious and able to talk up to the last moment. It was one of those accidents due to men becoming so familiarized with danger that they grow careless. Mr. Lansden has been hauling lumber the past two years over mountain roads. Your correspondent came down from the Rock to Sedalia with him on the previous Monday. He intended going to Buffalo Creek via Denver, but being told of Bowen's Mill went there. This was his first trip down from the mill, and to those acquainted with the road it is not surprising that he did not appreciate fully how steep the road really is. The boys at the mill came down in a body and did all that was possible to alleviate his terrible sufferings with the proverbial tenderness of our rough Western boys, but he was past all human aid from the first moment of the smashup. They also chipped in and paid all the funeral expenses. Mr. Lansden was from Missouri, but had been about Colorado Springs the past two years. He leaves a young wife and three prattling babes, (the eldest but eight years old) to mourn his departure. "Tis ever thus. Man knoweth not in what manner of time his hour cometh. | LEHMAN, FRED | Rocky Mtn. News Dec. 25, 2003 by Tillie Fong Fred Lehman started his career in flowers but wound up in cattle. "He could do just about anything", said his wife, Pat Lehman of Morrison. "He liked to grow things. He was really an animal lover." Mr. Lehman died Dec. 13 at Porter Hospice in Englewood. He was 65. Born March 16, 1938, in Denver, he worked as a child in his father's greenhouse on Colorado Boulevard. The greenhouse grew carnations and vegetables for local markets. Mr. Lehman graduated from Colorado State University in 1961 with a degree in horticulture. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He joined the Army right out of college and was stationed in Alaska as a mechanic. He was discharged as a private first class in 1963. Mr. Lehman married Pat Hallberg on Aug. 1, 1970, in Denver, and they moved to Parker. He decided to follow in his father's footsteps and opened a 50,000 square foot greenhouse, called Fred Lehman Greenhouse, which specialized in carnations. "It was a very big industry because we had more days of natural sunlight than any other state," Pat Lehman said. "We were well known for the Colorado carnation. People knew where they came from. It was a source of great pride." In the mid-1970's, when carnations started to be imported from So. America, Mr. Lehman decided to diversity his business and started growing snapdragons, lilies, and bedding plants. He opened a flower shop in 1973 and expanded his business in 1980 to include a garden center and a nursery. Mr. Lehman ws a member of the Colorado Flower Growers Assn. and the Rocky Mtn. Santa Gertrudis Assn. In 1999, Mr. Lehman sold the business and his 25 acre ranch in Parker and moved to Morrison, where his family had a 160 acre ranch. While living in Parker, he had started to raise cattle. "We grew hay there, and got a few head of cattle when we need a tax write-off," said his wife. But after doing some research Mr. Lehman found that Santa Gertrudis cattle were good beef producers, and he started specializing in the breed, raising a herd of 20 cows and calves. He often would sell and buy cattle at the National Western Stock Show and show them there. When the family moved to the ranch in Morrison, they continued to raise feeder cattle, mostly 10-15 animals, which they would auction off in Fort Collins every year. The last of his cattle was sold in Oct.(2003) In addition to his wife, Mr. Lehman is survived by a son Frerd Lehman of Englewood; a daughter, Tina Lehman, of Morrison; and two sisters, Freida Wambolt, of Littleton and Phyllis Contrearas, of Westminster. News Press, Dec. 18, 2003-Susan Dage Ruby Fred Lehman, the only son of first -generations German immigrants and a longtime Parker resident, died Dec. 13 at the Porter Hospice at Johnson Center in Centennial. He was 65. Mr. Lehman had a stroke. Funeral mall was Dec. 17 at the Light of the World Catholic Church in Littleton. Internment will be later at the Lehman Family Ranch in Morrison. His parents, Fred and Freida (Repp) Lehman, homesteaded east of Denver, but later moved to the city. Fred and Freida Lehman owned a greenhouse on Colorado Boulevard when it was a two lane dirt road. There, the family raised carnations and vegetables to sell to local markets and neighbors. Born March 16, 1938, Mr. Lehman worked with his father at the greenhouse. After he graduated from South High School, Mr. Lehman attended Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in horticulture. While at CSU he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and served a tour of duty in Alaska as a mechanic. He earned a good conduct medal. He married Patricia Hallberg Aug. 1, 1970, at St. Vincente Paul Catholic Church in Denver, and the couple honeymooned in Europe and Italy. The family settled in Parker, where for 30 years Mr. Lehman built a business. A love of the land got into him just like the soil got under his fingernails. Mr. Lehman, like his father, grew carnations. He also was involved in the Colorado Flower Grower's Assn. He grew a variety of other plants and flowers and eventually converted his greenhouse to a garden center, flower shop and nursery. "My father was hard-working," said his son, Fred Lehman. Mr. Lehman was part of the land, whether growing carnations or cattle. A good Friend of Douglas County rancher and preservationist, Tweet Kimball, Lehman also raised Santa Gertrudis cattle and served on the Rocky Mtn. Santa Gertrudis Assn. "He enjoyed his cattle," his son said. After Mr. Lehman sold his business and Parker property, which now the site of the Wal-Mart Super center, he moved with is wife to the family's ranch near Morrison. There, he continued to work with his cattle and do forestry on 160 acres. He also worked part time for the Jefferson County School Dist. Besides his wife of Morrison, he is survived by son Fred Lehman of Englewood; daughter, Tina Lehman, of Morrison; sisters Freida Wambolt of Littleton and Phyllis Contreasras of Westminster; and numerous family and friends. | LIPPS, CHARLIE | January 24, 1894 Drowned - On Saturday, January 20, Charlie, a thirteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lipps, was drowned in the lake at Perry Park while fishing. At the time of the fatal accident, the little fellow was alone so no one saw him when he fell. He was soon discovered by his elder brother Albert who summoned the father and the body was taken from the water but life was extinct. The funeral services were to have been held at the church at Castle Rock yesterday but owing to the extreme cold weather it was postponed until today at 12 o'clock. Rev. Harris will conduct the services and the remains will be interred in the Castle Rock cemetery. The JOURNAL joins with other friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. |

| LIVINGOOD, GEORGE | Castle Rock Daily Star, Nov. 22, 2003 George Livingood, 80, longtime Louviers resident died Tues. in Denver, Co. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 17, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church of Castle Rock. Interment will be at Bear Canon Cemetery in Sedalia. On Nov. 13, 1942, he married Beryl Hammond in Raton, N.M. Livingood retired after 41 years with DuPont works. Livingood also ran a shoe repair shop in Castle Rock and was the former Douglas County Special Deputy. He was a member of Elks lodge #2122, Englewood, Co., Livingood liked to fish, camp and hunt pheasants and duck. In his younger days Livingood enjoyed playing baseball. Mr. Livingood is survived by his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Orr and her husband of Franktown and Dana Chambers and her husband Norman of Louviers; one brother William Darrell Livingood and his wife Opal of Fall Brook, Ca. ; two sisters, Frances Harrison and her husband Tom Harrison of Cedaredge, Co., and Wilma Gelroth and her husband Albert Gelroth, of Louviers; five grandchildren Shawn Orr, H. George H. | LOUD, JACK | Douglas County News Press, Jan. 15, 2004 Jack Berekley Loud, 72, formerly of Sedalia, died Jan. 9 in Aurora(CO). A memorial service is at 1p.m., Jan. 15(2004), at Sough Broadway Christian Church, 23 Lincoln St., Denver, CO. There was a cremation. Born June 7, 1931, in Denver, he was the son of Arthur and Bernice(Mowrer)Loud. He was a 1949 graduate of West High School in Denver. Mr. Loud served in the U.S. Army for two years in Korea. He and Beverly "Sue" Upgreen were married Aug. 25, 1956 in Denver. He was employed at Gates Rubber Co., where he was a truck tire builder until the company stopped making tires. Until retirement, he worked as a supervisor of hoses at Gates. Mr. Loud enjoyed sports and coached children's softball while the family lived in Sedalia. He also enjoyed cooking. He and his wife moved to Denver after their children had grown. He is survived by his wife of Denver; daughter Janette Bernal of Castle Rock; sons Kana Loud and his wife, Ginger, of Dillon, Daryl Loud and his wife, Denice, of Highlands Ranch, Alan Loud and his wife, Maureen, of Englewood and Jeff Loud and his wife, Janna, of Monument; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. |

When Lovell was working in Maintenance at the Best Western Inn in Castle Rock, a new general Manager had car trouble. Lovell offered to help with his AAA card, Hill said. Afuneral service was Jan 12, in Castle Rock, and private interment is planned at Cedar Hill Cemetery. There was a cremation. Born Jan. 6, 1945 in Scottsbluff, Neb., he was the son of Glendean and Mary(Hollenbeck) Lovell. He and Diana Kay Andersen Hill were married Jan !, 1992. Lovell was the manager for the Castle Court Apartments in Castle Rock. Besides working at Best Western, He was the former maintenance person the Castle Rock Senior Center, where he helped with recreational programs. He had also worked in Maintenance at the Wal-Mart Supercenter. "He enjoyed helping the seniors," Hill said. "He enjoyed crafts, building and making things." "He built an open-air trailer, a tool box for a nephew and a dollhouse for his nieces, "Hill said. Lovell took care of his two sisters in Arvada, one of whom is in home hopice care. "He would go up there and mow lawn and take care of the house,"Hill said. "Grumpy" played Santa Claus for his brother, who was general manager of a bowling center in Greeley", Hill said "All while he was getting ready he'd complain," she said. "but that was only a cover" Once he was with the children, it was hard to tell who was having more fun, she said. At a costume party at the senior center when it was on Third Street, Lovell dressed in a pink tutu and mask and went as a pink fairy, Hill said. "No one knew who he was." She said. "He really had fun." A jack-of-all-trades, Lovell enjoyed cooking, and worked for a time as a cook at the Vienna Junction, a small café in the 700 block of Wilcox Street. He might have had fun in his myriad job, Hill said, but he was serious about bowling. "He took third place out of 1,500 b9owlers in a national tournament in Las Vegas in 1991. After open heart surgery in 1992, he had to slow down, she said. He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Lovell, sister Pat Adams, nephew Kirsten Neal McFarland and sister-in-law Pamela McFarland. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Mon at the Macy Chapel of the Allnut funeral Service at 702 13th St. in Greeley, Co. A Colorado native, McHugh was born in Denver on Dec. 4, 1935. Prior to attending Colorado State University, where he earned a BS degree, McHugh was a farmer in the Brush and LaJunta areas of the State. As preparation for his career as an accountant, McHugh also earned an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. His professional life included work as an accountant for the State of Colorado's Social Services Dept. in Denver. McHugh was married to Susan(McCully) McHugh and the couple had a son, Jas. And a dau. His wife, as well as another son, Sean McHugh, preceded him in death. An avid reader, George McHugh was very interested in Western history, especially the history of Colorado, a member of several historical societies, he was also known as a philosopher and movie aficionado. He came to Castle Rock, in 1998. George McHugh is survived by his son Jas. McHugh and his wife Susan of Seward, Neb.; his dau. Dawn Rynes of Lakewood; his brother Edward and his wife Alice of Paxton, Mass.; a sister Alice and her husband Forest Smith of Castle Rock, and three grandchildren. | McINROY, EFFIE McDOWELL | Douglas County News 1949 Old Time Douglas County Resident Passes Away Effie McDowell was born near Oskaioosa, Kansas, February 2, 1870. She came to Colorado with her family when she was nine years old and lived near Greenland where she attended the Spring Valley school and later went to Castle Rock to finish her education. She taught school in Douglas County for several years. On March 28, 1897, she married James P. McInroy and lived on a ranch near Larkspur until the summer of 1922 at which time they moved to Denver where they made their home. Mr. McInroy preceded her in death, August 26, 1948. Mrs. McInroy was visiting her son, Frank, in Colorado Springs when she passed away Sunday morning, October 23, 1949. She is survived by four sons, Harold F., of Denver; Frank H. of Colorado Springs; James P and Stewart R. of Texas; and three daughters, Mrs. Alice La???? And Mrs. Effie Williams of Denver, and Mrs. Violet Litz?, of South Dakota; eleven grand children and two great grand children, also two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were arranged through the Andrews Funeral Home of Castle Rock and services were held at St. Phillip's Church on Tuesday, October 25, at 2 p.m. Interment was made in Bear Canon Cemetery. |

Born March 29, 1908 in Rural Douglas County, she was the daughter of Simon Joseph and Josephine Anna (Nock) Ehmann. She married Martin Mikelson in 1926 in Castle Rock. Mr. Mikelson preceded her in death in November 1962. Gertrude was a school teacher at Deckers School, Lower Lake Gulch School, Sedalia School and Kiowa School. She and Mrs. Connie Weekley started Tri-County Health Department in Douglas County. Gert sat on the Selective Service Draft Board through the Vietnam era. Gert also had a great love for the yound (sic) and she befriended many of the Douglas County youth. She was also Fr. Donald McMahon's housekeeper for many years. Gertrude enjoyed animals and conservation. Mrs. Mikelson is survived by two sons; M. David Mikelson of Denver, Danny Mikelson of Castle Rock, one daughter, Sebrina Mikelson also of Castle Rock, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mulloney were married Nov. 15, 1947, in Boston. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Mulloney was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Castle Rock and did volunteer work there and in public schools. She was a day-care provider for many years and worked for the Denver Post in 1947. She enjoyed playing cards.
