| GAYLORD WEAVER | Douglas County News Press, Jan. 22,2004 Gaylord "Bee" Eugene Weaver, 76, of Park Rapids Minn., died Jan. 15, at his home. A funeral service was Jan. 21 in Castle Rock, with interment at Elizabeth Cemetery. (Elizabeth, CO) Born March 29, 1927, in Grinnell, Iowa, he was the son of Elmer and Blanche(Pickering)Weaver. He and Laveda Bucklin were married Dec. 1, 1947. He was a farmer in Grinnell until he moved to Colorado in 1969. From 1973-1989, he was co-owner of M&W Masonry. He moved to Park Rapids in 1989. Mr. Weaver enjoyed politics and was a duck, deer and pheasant hunter. He was preceded in death by brother Vern Weaver and is survived by his wife of Park Rapids; children Sheri Raehling and her husband, Dick, of Highlands Ranch, Becky Morrison and her husband, Dave, of Elizabeth, Thad Weaver of Park Rapids and Tom Weaver and his wife, Michelle, of Kowa; sisters Barbara Weaver of Parker, Betty Anderson of Grinnell and Judy Puls and her husband, Larry, of Alabama; grandchildren Jason, Laura, Lisa, Josh and Cade; and great-grandchildren Janna, Jessie and Jeremiah. | GILLILAND, JAMES ROBERT | Douglas County News-Press May 2001 James Robert Gilliland James Robert Gilliland, 52, of Thermopolis, Wyo., died Saturday at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. There was cremation, and his cremains are being returned to Castle Rock for interment. Mr. Gilliland was born July 8, 1948, in Colorado Springs, the son of Lowell and Beulah (Pingetzer) Gilliland. He is survived by daughter Kali Gilliland of Elizabeth; brothers Wayne Gilliland and his wife, Joyce of Briggsdale, Dennis Gilliland and his wife, Louise, of Castle Rock, and Pete Gilliland of Bird City, Kan.; and grandson Dustin Robert Gilliland of Elizabeth. |

| GLADYS VIOLA MESSING ANDERSON | Castle Rock Star Aug. 13, 2004 Gladys Viola Messing was born July 9, in Donegal, Kan., the fifth of six children. When she was six years old her family moved to Kerington, Kan., where her family operated a small ?. In 1913 the family moved to a homestead in southeastern Co. Gladys lived in a three room duplex with her family until she moved to Seibert where she lived with her sister and attended high school. Gladys graduated from high school in 1921 and began her short teaching career. In 1923 she taught Goldale School in Douglas County. While teaching there she boarded with one of the Anderson family where she met Emil Anderson who came over to help build a barn. They married on July 9, 1925. The newly weds soon moved to a home nearby. Their first daughter, Doris, was born in 1929. In 1935 they were able to purchase the old Crosswhite place along Cherry Creek where Gladys and Emil lived the rest of their lives. In 1935 Beverly was born, and a year later Shirley came along. As the girls grew up, the entire family was involved in crafts, to the point that they opened their own store in Colorado Springs in 1953. the girls were musical and played accordions at local dances. The girls married and grandchildren began arriving. In all, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren joined the family. In 1975 Gladys and Emil celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. One month ago Gladys celebrated her 100th birthday. Gladys Anderson died peacefully Sun Aug. 10, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, siblings, two daughters and two grandsons. She is survived by her daughter Beverly(Allen)Gresham, Seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two sons-in-law; Everett Heidemann and Virgil Brauer. Funeral services were today at the Elbert Christian Church. Interment was to be in Elizabeth Cemetery. Pastor Tim Nay was to have officiated. |

| HANCOCK, ROBERT N. | At Walsenburg, Thursday, August 13th (1891) at 10 o'clock p.m. of consumption, Robert N. Hancock, aged 88 years and five mos. Deceased was born in Pitston Pa. But lived in NY State much of the time after growing to manhood until1878 when he came to Co. for his health and being greatly benefited he made Douglas Co. his permanent home. A little over three years ago he spent several of the winter months visiting his old home since which time his health has gradually failed. In the winter of 1889 and 90 he was confined to his bed for a long time and never sufficiently recovered to be able to engage in business. Although constantly wasting away he was able to be about part of the time until a few days before his death. On the tenth he became worsle and summoned Dr. Moore, but although everything possible was done for him he failed rapidly and died three days later. For several years Mr. Hancock occupied the position of county Superintendent of schools and has always been an active, energetic, and upright businessman. He was at one time editor and proprietor of the 'CASTLE ROCK JOURNAL' and Greatly increased the popularity of the paper. He was a member and active worker in the Methodist Episcopal church being for several years superintendent of the Sabbath School. There is probably no man in the county who is better known or who would be more sincerely mourned. The bereaved wife has the sympathy of the entire county. The remains were brought to Castle Rock for interment, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. B.F. Todd at 10 o'clock a.m. on Sat. A large company gathered to pay their last respects to the departed, and to sympathize with the bereaved friends. |

| HEIDEMANN, DORIS ARLENE | Douglas County News-Press March 14, 2001 Doris Arlene Heidemann Services for Doris Arlene Heidemann, 71, of Franktown were Saturday at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth. Interment at Spring Valley Cemetery in Larkspur followed. Mrs. Heidemann died March 7. A Colorado native and housewife, Mrs. Heidemann was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Denver, the daughter of Emil and Gladys Anderson. She graduated from Douglas County High School in 1947. She married Everett Heidemann June 28, 1953, in Englewood and was a member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church and the Mountainview Club in Cherry Valley. Mrs. Heidemann enjoyed crafts and was known for the jelly she made for local bazaars and friends. Survivors include her husband; daughter Judy Larson and her husband, David, of Iliff; son Randy and his wife, Michelle, of Hartsel; her mother of Franktown; sister Beverly Gresham and her husband, Allen, of Elbert; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Heidemann, and a sister, Shirley Brauer. Donations in her name can be made to St. Mark Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth, CO 80107. | HOLBROOK, W.E. | April 4, 1894 Died - At his residence in Monument of thrombosis on March 30, at 10:40 p.m., W. E. Holbrook, age 70 years 2 mo. and 23 days. The deceased was born in Potsdam, Lawrence Co., N. Y., July 12, 1823. He was a veteran of the late war, loyal member of the G.A.R. and past Commander of this post. He settled here 18 years ago last August, and was a leading, and one of our most respected citizens, was Mayor of this town for several years last past. A quiet unassuming gentleman of noble, generous impulses he was respected by all and all who knew him loved him well. His death is a loss and cause of sadness to this entire community. - Monument Messenger. Mayor Holbrook who died at his home in Monument last Friday is one of the old timers and was highly respected by a large circle of acquaintances. He was an old soldier and an active member of the Grand Army of the Republic. |
