Arbuthnot Carrizo From Baca County History Book copyright 1983 Carrizo Springs, located 23 miles southwest of present town of Pritchett near the Sam Collins ranch, was organized December 17, 1887. There was a population of approximately 400 people. By 1893, Carrizo Springs was a ghost town with only piles of rocks to show where the buildings used to stand. Carrizo Flats: Built 1.25 miles south of Oklarado in 1887. The estimated population was 150 which eventually moved to its sister city, Carrizo Springs.
