Mesa Verde National Park

Established by Congress on September 29, 1906, Mesa Verde - Spanish for "Green Table" - is the first national park set aside to preserve the work of humankind. The Mesa Verde National Park's Archaeological Museum is open 365 days a year and houses the full range of artifacts uncovered in and near Mesa Verde.

Wetherill Mesa offers some of the best sightseeing and camera viewpoints in the park. On a clear day many landmarks may be seen in all four states, including Shiprock in New Mexico, Monument Valley in Arizona and Utah, Colorado's Sleeping Ute Mountain to the west, and the rugged San Juans to the north and east.

Wetherill Mesa's Long House is the second largest ruin in the Park and has ranger guided tours every half hour. Both Long House and the self-guided Step House tours are a half mile in length. Badger House Community on the mesa top is a three-quarter-mile long, self guided tour.
