" In 1882, H.L. Hellen began publishing the Hampton Journal, and in July had taken C.F. Holden as a partner. The firm also printed the Bradshaw Pike for the York community. Mr. Holden took over the entire business but had to have the assistance of the citizens to pay off his mortgage. Mr. Hellen started a new paper, the Hampton Herald, in February 1884, a somewhat unethical procedure, after having sold to his partner. The length the Herald survived is not known."

"The Hampton Herald was started in the town of Hampton in 1884 by H. L. Hellen. He was succeeded at his death in 1885 by Mrs. Hellen and her sister, Miss Smith, who continued its publication for about a year, when they sold it to Whitmore & Addis. After four months' experience in the newspaper business Mr. Whitmore retired, and Mr. Addis conducted it alone for about a year, when it expired. Politics, Republican."

January 19, 1889 Sterling "We sympathize with our brother editor R. F. Addis, of the Calvert Democrat, in the loss of his good wife, whose death occurred last week, of consumption. Mrs. Addis was a most estimable lady, and will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends."
Ida has a memorial in Page County, Iowa.

It is strange to see how liberal in their politics these democratic editors become when there is a prospect of swallowing a third party. The Independent, has a bright newsy appearance. "

October 12, 1891 Stoneham, Weld County, items in the Greeley Tribune " R. Addis, manager of the Independent paper at Sterling, passed through this place last Friday on his way to his homestead, which lies between here and Raymer to bury his little ones. We sympathize with him in his deep sorrow."
