Wilson S. Knowles was born in Sheboygan Falls on March 17, 1856 to Myron and Asinath (Butler) KNowles. Mryon's parents were Elisha and Olive (Saunders) KNowles. Elisha's parents were Simon and Lydia (Fuller) Knowles.
His SAR membership application said Simon served at Bunker Hill at the age of 16.

In 1850 Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, Miron B. Knowles is a tavern keeper, 27, Asena 22, Miron C. 4, William six months.

In 1860 Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, Myron is a grocer, Seneth 39, Cassander 14, Adelia 9, Eva 6, Walter 4, William 3. They have a domestic Electra Reynolds 15.

In 1870 Omaha, Nebraska, M.B. Knowles is an insurance agent, 45, with Asinah 42, Addie 18, Mara 16, Walter 15, Willie 13, and Anna 9.
In 1880 Weld County, Colorado, Myron B. Knowles is a temperance lecturer, 55, with Asenath 51 and Wilson S. 23. Their daughter Adele K. Clark 27 and her son Fred are with them. So is their son-in-law John W. Ramsey 31.

In 1885 Weld County, Myron is farming, 62, with Asinath 57, and a boarder John Brown, a ranchhand 22.

In 1885 Weld County, (BUT IN THE STERLING COLORADO AREA) there's a W. B. Knowles 62 born in New Hampshire with son W. B. 28, both sheepmen.

Wilson claimed a tract in sections 25 and 30, 10N 49W in 1886.


October 1887 "W. S. Knowles raised 175 bushels of potatoes on 5-18 of an acre of ground without irrigation. They are of the very best quality. Sterling Advocate"

March 1889 Sterling "Callers this week Hon. J. M. Henderson, Hon. Eugene Tedmon, J. H. Scott, W. S. Knowles of Sterling; Col. Andrews, of Montrose, and our old-time friends, J. S. Kelley and Dannie McMaster, of Abilene, Kansas."

April 1889 Crook items in the Sterling newspaper "M. B. Knowles has some as fine and thrifty 'pie plant' as one could wish to see, growing on his place north of Crook, and is ready for use now. We had a fine specimen sent in to us to-day."

June 1890 "We acknowledge the receipt of a package of pie plant, raised by Father Knowles, the patriarch of Crook, without irrigation. It is equal in size and quality to any ever seen by tho oldest inhabitant east. Thanks."

September 1890 "For Sale - Prime healthy sheep at a bargain, also Merino and Shropshire bucks. Knowles Bro's, Crook, Colorado"

1901 Greeley, Colorado "W. S. Knowles, of Fort Lupton, was in town Wednesday and Thursday of last week as the guest of his sister, Mrs. Jessie Harris."

May 1901 Greeley "J. S. Knowles, of Delaware, Iowa, has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. W. S. Knowles, for a week past. He left Tuesday for his Iowa home after having made some investments in Greeley. He is very much in love with the town and expects to return here and locate permanently."

February 14, 1908 " Greeley, Colo. M. B. Knowles, an original Union colonist, now a resident of Fort Lupton, but who, for years, lived in Greeley, has celebrated his eighty-fifth birthday in Fort Lupton, surrounded by his children, W. S. Knowles, Mrs. A. K. Clark, Mrs. J. W. Ramsey of Greeley, Mrs. T. U. Porter of Denver and his grandchildren.
Mr. Knowles was born in New Hampshire and after his marriage sixty-three years ago moved to Wisconsin, later going to Nebraska with his family, and from there to Greeley in 1870. Mr. Knowles was the first school teacher in Greeley and today takes a keen interest in educational affairs. He is a mathematician of distinction and is the author of several treatises."

March 16, 1911 "At Fort Lupton Mrs. A. Knowles, wife of M. B. Knowles, an original Union colonist and resident of Greeley since 1807 [should be 1870], until ten years ago, died, aged eighty-three."
Asenath (Butler) Knowles 1828-1911 is buried in Greeley # 57468012.

January 9, 1914 "Greeley - M. B. Knowles, ninety-one, pioneer of the Union colony and a former editor of the Omaha Bee, is dead after several week's illness. After editing the Bee he was editor of the Oakland (Cal.) Daily News. He came here in 1872 and was Greeley's first school teacher."

Myron Bartney Knowles 1823-1914 is buried in Greeley # 57467898.

Annabel married Thomas N. Porter, and in 1900 are in Fort Lupton, Thomas 42, Annabel 37, Mildred 15, and Muriel J. 1.

1897 "Friday the county commissioners recommended T. N. Porter of Fort Lupton to Governor Adams, as commissioner of Water District No. 2. By the way, is not this the gentleman who foreswore the democratic party in 1895 for a constable's nomination by the republicans at his precinct?"

1901 "Ruby Frink, Mildred Porter and Wheeler Kelsey left for Greeley where they will attend the state Normal for this term."

July 1902 "G. G. Philip, T. N. Porter, E. S. St. John and W. C. Knowles and their families left for Estes Park Monday morning to be gone two weeks."

1903 "W. W. Frazier has sold his east side residence (in Fort Lupton) to T. N. Porter and will erect a new house on Park street."

October 1929 "Wlllard King has purchased the T. N. Porter farm one and a half miles southeast of town. This farm consists of 80 acres and is very good land."

1932 Greeley "Mesdames H. H. Ewing, J. W. McKissick, and G. W. Hoop were guests of Mrs. Annabelle Porter at luncheon Wednesday at the Brown Palace in Denver."
1934 Greeley " Mrs. Annabel Porter of Denver spent Thursday in Lupton on business and visiting friends."

They're buried in Fort Lupton - Anabel 1861-1936 # 57258084, and Thomas N. 1857-1931.
Their daughter Mildred married Charles E. McKimson in Denver, and in 1910 are in Logan County. Charles has a newspaper, 37, born i Iowa, with Mildred 26 born in Colorad. Thomas J. is 3, Anabel 1, both born in Colorado.
You know the work of their son Robert - who created the cartoon characters Foghorn Leghorn and the Tasmanian Devil, and was "critically important" in the development of Bugs Bunny.

Wilson S. Knowles applied for a passport in 1921, a construction worker living in Los Angeles, who wanted to go to Central America for work.

Wilson S. Knowles 1858-1929, dying in San Mateo County, California June 9, 1929, is buried in Greeley # 65226229.

Walter Channing Knowles 1855-1904 is buried in Fort Lupton # 46531698.

Adele Clark is widowed in 1900 Greeley, 48, with a roomer Mary Jenkins 46. Her son Frederick Clark born June 1879 in Colorado is with them.
Fred was living with his grandparents Edwin and Daisy Clark in 1885 Weld COUnty.
Fred married Gertrude E. Wilson on June 20, 1901, and in Trnidad Colorado in 1910 Fred is a deputy district attorney, 30, with Gerturde 29 born in Michigan. Edgar is 8.

Gertrude died in California, and is buried in Greeley 1881-1971 # 65217759.
Fred is buried there, too 1878-1949 # 65217755.
