News Of Our Boys
Pfc. George W. Critchfield, US MCR, husband of Mrs. Viola P. Critchfield of Burlington, is on his way home. Pfc. Critchfield is one of 1,500 high-point navy and Marine veterans whom the "Magic Carpet" is bringing back to the States aboard the U. S. S.
Texas.
Passengers will go directly to the separation centers nearest their homes to complete the formalities of obtaining their discharges before returning to civilian life.
Pfc. Clord Meyer, son of Conrad Meyer of Bethune, has been discharged and is now home with his family.
Wilburn E. Brown, F. 1/c, left New York Monday of this week for Shoemaker, Calif., where he will receive his discharge, according to word received by Mrs. Brown. Bill has been in service nearly two years, and underwent intensive submarine schooling at the
navy's various training centers.
Word of the death of Ernest William Lucas, Jr., comes as a shock to
Burlington and Stratton friends. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lucas of Stratton, a coxswain in the navy. He met death Dec. 7 by drowning while in the service of his country, according to a telegram received by his parents last week. The last they had heard
from him he was at Pearl Harbor, and burial details had not yet been forwarded to them.

son of F. S. Anderson, former resident of South of Stratton, now living at Delta.
Pvt. Dewey Wilcox is at Guam, and he writes Mrs. Wilcox that he hopes to be home in February or March. His work is that of an electrician.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Russell are happy to have their daughter, Seaman 1/c Mary Ann Russell, of the WAVES home on a 21-day holiday leave. She arrived Thursday from her station at Banana River, Fla.

LOCAL MEN ON DUTY IN PACIFIC
Believe All Are Uninjured So Far
Burlington and Kit Carson county are well represented in the Pacific
theatre of war. The following information concerning sailors and marines from this county is based upon the last word heard from these men. This is not official, and it must be remembered that navy regulations are especially fluid in times of emergency.

Cavite, near Manila. He is a warrant officer and has been in the service 15 years.

somewhere in the Pacific. Word has not been received from him for the past three months.
Max Blair, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. King, is thought to be at
Wake Island. Max left this summer for the island to work with a construction crew.
Leo Hoffman, son of Frank Hoffman, is believed to be stationed at Pearl Harbor. Mr. Hoffman also has a nephew in the service, and he has been stationed on the U. S. S. Oklahoma.

Stratton are on duty somewhere in the Pacific.
