Helen (Gant) Lockman

Steve Fox shared this photo of Helen Gant from 1913. She was 18 at the time. Turns out she would become a victim of the Spanish Flu epidemic.
Helen's parents had been among the earliest pioneers in the area, coming to Divide creek in 1885. Helen's mom Eunice was just 10 years old at the time. Eunice and her mom were the 2nd and 3rd women to live on Divide Creek.
Helen was born 10 years later on August 18, 1895, and attended school through high school in Rifle. She was married October 26, 1918. Then she passed away January 11, 1919.
Her mother Eunice was likely also a flu victim as she passed away April 15, 1920. Helen's brother Lawrence had also been ill when Helen passed, but he recovered and lived until 1994
