This is a collection of historical pictures in and around Rifle Colorado.  Photos are used from Edwin Thompson, Steve Fox, Paul Bernklau and others.

The Langstaff brothers, John J (JJ or Jack) and his younger brother Bart (Bartholomew) came to Rifle around 1882 or 1883 among the very earliest pioneers. JJ homesteaded west of Rifle, was never married. From Reveille clips, Bart did a little of everything and was well regarded as one of the areas hustlers, meaning entrepreneurs. Bart did marry, in 1890 to Henrietta Worral and they had seven children before she died of either scarlet fever or measles in 1909. Bart was left with an 8 month old and six other children aged 15 or under. Then in 1917 JJ died, and because JJ was single, Bart inherited the ranch. A long line of descendants has lived in the area
