The History of Hooper Town
by Melvin McAllister
Hooper was a railroad town in Costilla County until 1913 when it was split off into Alamosa County.

Melvin has just finished a history of this book which he is selling. It contains 200 pages plus index. It has pictures of the town and people. Maps to help the reader and describes the area before Hooper and gives an excellent description of the agriculture and economic life after Hooper began. There is a very thorough history of each business, including oil, water and gas development of the area.

It discusses the related towns as they affected Hooper. School history and the development of the school districts is given in detail. Church, lodge and local club histories are given. There are human interest stories. Profiles of prominent (and not so prominent) people are given. It contains census records, church records, vital statistics and cemetery records.
