A RANGE FIGHT.
Del Norte, Col., Aug. 20 Additional particulars have been received of the shooting affray which occurred at the head of the San Juan river. It was first reported that one Mexican had been killed and another wounded. Instead of the dead man being a Mexican, it transpires, that County Commissioner Howell of Hinsdale county Mas the victim, he having been shot through the head. One of his opponents, a Mexican herder, was slightly wounded. The trouble arose over Montoya and another Mexican driving their herd of sheep upon the meadow land of Howell. Howell, together with his brother. shot several of the sheep. The herders came up and a four-handed fight ensued, the Mexicans eventually fleeing. One of them, whose name is unknown, is at present at Pagosa Springs receiving medical aid. He is strongly guarded by his friends, as there is talk of lynching him.
